In photos: filming of The Witcher continues at the Egri vár másolata castle

Last week we reported that filming was taking place at Hungarian castle Egri vár másolata with the involvement of mages and sorceresses. To refresh your memory, the characters mentioned were Vilgefortz, Sabrina and Triss, along with a young alderman played by Jack Bandeira and the yet-unknown character played by Rhianna McGreevy. We have now learned that Jim Caesar, who has been identified as one of the actors filming at Ogrodzieniec Castle in Poland, is also in Budapest according to his Instagram stories. But that’s not all!

As we mentioned before, Shaun Dooley arrived in Budapest just for one day and has already left Hungary. His social media suggests that he has probably filmed scenes at least with Vilgefortz. We do not yet know which character Shaun portrays, but we do know that he has filmed scenes in the Austrian castle Kreuzenstein in January and prior to that he has been training for horseback riding.

Royce Pierreson, who plays Istredd, wrapped filming on The Witcher earlier this week. As with Shaun, his social media suggests that he has filmed scenes with Mahesh Jadu. It appears that more characters are present in this scene than we originally thought. Let’s take a look at those photos now:

As you can see, lots of smoke and people hard at work. Speaking of people, last week on set was director of photography Jean-Philippe Gossart, who is working on episodes 3, 4, 7 and 8. We suspect that this shoot is roughly for the same in-universe location as the shoot at Ogrodzieniec Castle and JP’s presence thickens the plot. Also, thewitcher.tv has been able to reach out to Netflix and confirm our scoop about Marc Jobst. He is indeed involved, but Netflix remains tight-lipped as to how extensive his role is. With Charlotte Brandstrom having bid farewell to Budapest, only remaining directors are Alik Sakharov, Alex Garcia Lopez and possibly Marc Jobst.

UPDATE #1: Anna Shaffer has shared a photo from her dressing room in costume, confirming that she’s filming right now. Also on location is Mimi Ndiweni, who plays Fringilla Vigo. Although we don’t see her, we can hear Therica call her in her latest Instagram story. Sabrina appears to be in need of help!

Update #2: And that’s a wrap for Therica Wilson-Read for Season 1! Read her hearfelt post below:

UPDATE #3: And now we have a confirmation of all four sorceresses in Budapest from Therica’s Instagram. Present are Therica herself, Mimi Ndiweni, Anna Shaffer and last, but not least, the one that has been very hard to catch on camera, Anya Chalotra.

Lastly, let’s take a look at what the production team did with the castle itself. This is what the place looked like on April 15, before they came in:

And this is what it looks like after the crew did their job. We can now also confirm that Lauren’s Instagram photo was taken right from here:

So we have Yennefer,Vilgefortz, Istredd, Triss, Sabrina, Fringilla, a young alderman, Shaun Dooley’s character and Rhianna McGreevy’s character at this location that looks like some old castle ruin. It is not at all known, but very likely that also present at the scene are Tissaia, Vanielle of Brugge and perhaps others. Sabrina has bruises and we have learned that at the location there are also a number of stuntpeople, with filming at the same location taking place for two weeks already.

Is an action sequence involving a number of mages in store for us? We can only guess until the season drops. In the meantime, we will continue to search for any scoops we can find.
