By The fourth season of Netflix’s The Witcher is actively in pre-production for a planned this March at Longcross Studios, UK. While the first of the two upcoming seasons is being prepped for filming as we speak, the second one, Season 5 is already in development.
Writing The Witcher Season 5 Already Started
The fifth and very likely the final season of The Witcher has had an interesting road so far. It was first conceived back in Fall 2022 as part of Netflix’s plan to produce both Season 4 and Season 5 back-to-back. By the start of the WGA strikes in May 2023, Season 5 already had an outline and Season 4 was mostly written.
When the strikes ended a few months later, writing resumed to finish up Season 4 and now after the Christmas holidays The Witcher team has finally begun to write the scripts for Season 5.
With this, the plan to film both Season 4 and Season 5 back-to-back still seems quite possible. Each season usually takes approximately half a year to write, then some time to polish the scripts and filming for The Witcher Season 4 is expected to last until October 2024. By that time the scripts for Season 5 will most likely be finished.
The production plan also includes a small pause for the cast and crew, meaning they won’t go into Season 5 right away so the writers have the vast majority of the year to finish the season before it goes into filming either at the end of 2024 or early 2025.
Meanwhile, we wait for more news regarding the production and casting of Season 4. We already had Laurence Fishburne being announced as Regis, plus a confirmation that the new season will include Nimue.

The Witcher Season 4 is in production for a 2025 release. Andrzej Sapkowski’s new Witcher book has a planned Winter 2024/2025 release with The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep anime set for a late 2024 release as well.
