The third season of Netflix’s The Witcher is fast approaching with first volume releasing on June 29, and the second – July 27. Nevertheless, we still have a few things to publish between now and then. Today we finally have the confirmation of Jaskier’s worst nightmare in Season 3: Valdo Marx.

We’ve learned that Nathan Armakwei Laryea is playing the bard Valdo Marx, the troubadour of Cidaris in The Witcher Season 3. He’ll appear in either Episode 3 or 4 of the upcoming season.

It’s also worth noting that Laryea’s character in The Witcher Season 3 was previously credited as “Monument”. Whatever that means, we’ll see in a month.

In the Netflix series we first heard about Valdo Marx during the fifth episode of Season 1, when Jaskier took the Djinn jar from Geralt’s hands and wished upon Marx to be “struck down by apoplexy and die.”

Regarding Season 3, if you recall, back in the distant year of 2021, there was an old audition video of Prince Radovid of Redania, in which he is flirting with Jaskier and mentions the bard Valdo Marx: “If you came to Redania, you could be our royal troubadour. Otherwise we might have to listen to that reedy voice of Valdo Marx. Just think about it, would you?”

As far as we know, that scene did indeed make the cut and we’ll see it early in Season 3. As to how Valdo himself is involved and where will we see him in Season 3, your guess is as good as ours. That said, we still hope for some kind of “bard-off”.

Funnily enough, previously we suspected that actor, singer and comedian Josh Weller would be Valdo, while Laryea would be playing a mage. Turns out it’s the other way around. Weller is the mage, while Laryea is the bard.

Season 3 of The Witcher is in post-production for a June and July release. The Rats spin-off is currently in pre-production. Stay tuned to Redanian Intelligence and do pop into our Discord server to join in on The Witcher conversation.
