As reported earlier, the synopsis for the series is as follows: “Six teenage thieves must rely on their criminal skills as they plan the biggest heist of their careers against the most dangerous crime ring in the kingdom.”

New cast for the spinoff very likely includes Deoudone Van der Merwe (pictured in the group photo above) as well as Warren Masemola and Stevel Marc. Their roles are at the moment unknown.

We’ve also learned that veteran TV director Mairzee Almas will be working on the Rats spinoff. Her extensive CV includes projects like The Sandman, Shadow and Bone, Smallville, Jessica Jones, Outlander and many more.

There’s still no word on when filming will start on Rats, but it should be soon given all the cast is in Cape Town.

  1. The last Netflix adaptation (Resident Evil) which was filmed in South Africa was literally the worse television I had ever seen up to that point, which was suddenly taken over by ‘Blood Origin’. Definitely not a good sign.
