The Hedge Knight To Revisit Iconic Game of Thrones Filming Locations

It’s already late April and time passes by fast, so before we even know it, it will be June and with it, filming for HBO’s A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight will begin. Stars Peter Claffey and Dexter Sol Ansell are hard at work preparing for their roles of Dunk and Egg as we speak. Today we have new on which locations in Northern Ireland will the upcoming series use and they include some familiar names for those who were following the production of Game of Thrones back in the day.

Ashford and Flea Bottom: Glenarm Castle Estate and Myra Castle

As book readers know, the events of The Hedge Knight, the first Dunk & Egg novella, take place in Ashford, the seat of House Ashford. The castle is located in The Reach. The Ashford castle will be portrayed by Myra Castle in Northern Ireland.

On top of that, Myra Castle will also be used for scenes set in the Flea Bottom of King’s Landing. What part of it will be used as Flea Bottom is unclear, but we do know that Dunk was raised there. Perhaps we’ll see a young Dunk in the series?

In Game of Thrones, Myra castle was used as the exterior for House Bolton’s Dreadfort. And that’s only the first old Game of Thrones exterior location.

Back to Ashford, though. The Glenarm Castle Estate will be used in The Hedge Knight series as the Ashford meadows. The castle itself will not be used, as far as we understand. Which exact part of the estate will be used remains to be seen, but there’s plenty of greenery around there.

Crownlands: Tollymore Forest Park

The Tollymore Forest Park in Northern Ireland is the more iconic of the locations as far as Game of Thrones scenes go. This is the place where we saw Ned Stark and his sons discover the dying direwolf and her pups all the way back in Season 1. It wasn’t the only scene that was filmed there, but the most memorable one.

In The Hedge Knight, the Tollymore Park will be used for scenes set in the Crownlands. How extensive those shoots will be, we’ll see.

Titanic Studios

Titanic Studios 002

Finally, the most iconic one, Titanic Studios. This studio has server Game of Thrones as its main hub for a whole decade, from the unaired pilot episode to the final episode of Season 8.

After a short break for a few years, Titanic Studios will once again be a home for Westeros in The Hedge Knight. It’s likely that it could become the Dunk & Egg hub for however many seasons it lasts.

House of the Dragon Season 2 will premiere on HBO in June 2024 and filming for The Hedge Knight starts then as well. We will keep following both shows, so stay tuned!
