The Sandman Season 2: New Cast Members and Their Roles

In August of 2022, Netflix debuted its first season of the critically acclaimed fantasy series, The Sandman, based on the Neil Gaiman comic book series. A year and a half later, Netflix has already completed most of the filming for the hotly anticipated second season. Many fan-favorite characters who appeared in Season 1 are set to return, led by series star Tom Sturridge (Dream), but Season 2 will also introduce many new faces.

This article will list all the new castings that have been uncovered so far. We’ll update the list from time to time as we uncover more.

Jack Gleeson as Puck

Jack Gleeson broke the internet with his iconic role of Prince Joffrey Baratheon in Game of Thrones, quickly becoming the character viewers loved to hate. After a long break from acting, Gleeson has recently stepped in front of a camera once more, with roles in The Famous Five and Sex Education, among others. Now Gleeson has his eyes set on The Sandman.

In Season 2, Gleeson will portray the hobgoblin Puck. The official description of the character according to Netflix is as follows: “Jack Gleeson (Game of Thrones, Sex Education) plays Puck, a malevolent hobgoblin who serves as the royal jester to King Auberon of Faerie. Puck is fascinated by mortals and enjoys nothing more than making sport of them for his own amusement.”


Ann Skelly as Nuala

Ann Skelly is an Irish actor best known for her television roles in Red Rock, Playground, Vikings, and Death and Nightingales.

Skelly will portray Nuala in Season 2 of The Sandman. The official Netflix description of the role is as follows: “Ann Skelly (The Nevers, Death and Nightingales, Red Rock) is Nuala […], [a royal emissary] from the court of Faerie. Nuala is responsible, empathetic, and principled. Nuala and Cluracan are siblings who are opposites in every way. They disagree about everything, except their devotion to each other.”


Douglas Booth as Cluracan

Douglas Booth is an English actor best known for his film roles in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, Jupiter Ascending, and The Dirt. He has recently appeared on television in That Dirty Black Flag and Crush Hour: The Musical.

Booth will portray Cluracan in Season 2 of The Sandman. The official Netflix description of the role is as follows: “Douglas Booth (Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, The Dirt) is Cluracan, [a royal emissary] from the court of Faerie. Cluracan is an impulsive rogue who lives for pleasure. Nuala and Cluracan are siblings who are opposites in every way. They disagree about everything, except their devotion to each other.”


Clive Russell as Odin

Clive Russell is an experienced Scottish actor famous for his TV roles in Ripper Street, Game of Thrones, and Happiness. He has also appeared in films such as Sherlock Holmes, The Wolfman, and King Arthur. Russell has recently been cast in the role of storyteller Stribog in The Witcher Season 4.

Russell will portray the Norse god Odin in Season 2 of The Sandman. Known as the All-Father, Odin is the monarch in the Norse pantheon. Netflix describes the character as follows: “Clive Russell (The Cursed, Sherlock Holmes, Game of Thrones) plays Odin, the father of Thor, and blood-brother of Loki. He is a longtime ally of Dream’s, but finds himself driven to desperate extremes in his efforts to stave off Ragnarök.”


Laurence O’Fuarain as Thor

Laurence O’Fuarain is a Irish actor who started his career with small roles in Game of Thrones and Vikings, and has been growing steadily in popularity ever since. O’Fuarain has gone on to star in Netflix’s spin-off prequel of The Witcher, titled The Witcher: Blood Origin, and has most recently had a sizable guest role in Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen.

In Season 2 of The Sandman, O’Fuarain will portray the Norse god Thor, who needs no introduction to the popularity of the character in Marvel’s superhero franchise. Netflix has officially described the character as follows: “Laurence O’Fuarain (The Witcher: Blood Origin, The Gentlemen) is Thor, the storm god. With his hammer Mjollnir, Thor is brusque, rude, and driven entirely by his appetites for food and drink, battle, and sex.”


Freddie Fox as Loki

Freddie Fox is an up-and-coming British actor who has recently debuted in House of the Dragon Season 2 as Ser Gwain Hightower, Queen Alicent’s brother. Before that, Fox appeared in shows such as Slow Horses and The Great and the recently released Guy Ritchie film The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.

Fox will portray the Norse god Loki in Season 3 of The Sandman. Netflix has officially described the role as follows: “Freddie Fox (The Great, Slow Horses, The Gentlemen) is Loki, the god of chaos. Loki is a charming, seductive shape-shifter. The smartest and most dangerous person in any room, Loki is utterly irresistible and never to be trusted.”


Garry Cooper as Hades

Garry Cooper is a veteran actor who has an extensive acting career. He will likely be known to fantasy fans as Lord Ryam Redwyne from the first season of House of the Dragon. His recent projects also include Gangs of London and Better, and he has many more projects under his belt.

In Season 2 of The Sandman, Cooper will portray Hades, the Greek god of the Underworld. Though Netflix has not provided an official description of the character, fans of the comics will know where and when Hades might appear in the new season.


Steve Coogan as Barnabas

Steve Coogan is a British actor, comedian, and producer. Famous for portraying the comedic character Alan Partridge in various films and television series, Coogan has also appeared in films such as Philomena and Stan & Ollie. On television, he has appeared on The Trip and Chivalry, among many other shows. Coogan has also had some experience as a voice actor in the Minions franchise.

In Season 2 of The Sandman, Coogan will lend his voice to the canine character Barnabas, described by Netflix as follows: “Steve Coogan (Alan Partridge, The Trip) is the voice of Barnabas, the canine companion of the Endless’s Prodigal brother. Barnabas is loyal and loving, but an outspoken cynic. Meaning, he’s both man’s best friend and man’s sharpest critic.”


Indya Moore as Wanda

Indya Moore is an American actor, writer, director, and model. Moore is best known for the role of Angel in the television series Pose, and has most recently appeared in the film Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

Moore has joined the cast of The Sandman‘s second season in the role of Wanda, and she has been spotted filming alongside Kirby Howell-Baptiste’s Death and Tom Sturrige’s Dream. The official Netflix description of the character is as follows: “Indya Moore (Queen & Slim, Pose, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom) plays Wanda, a professional driver and security agent for an exclusive travel firm. Wanda proves herself to be an indispensable guide on an Endless road trip to the waking world.”


Spike White as Dick Cowley

 Spike White is an up-and-coming young actor known for his roles in No Offense and The Good Liar. He has most recently appeared in Masters of Air where he portrayed Lt. Charles A. Via.

In The Sandman‘s second season, White will play Dick Cowley. That name indicates that we’ll see him in the episode called “More Devils than The Cast Hell Can Hold”, the adaptation of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. In it, Dick Cowley was an actor who was performing in one of William Shakespeare’s plays.


Jade Burnett as Guardswoman

Jade Burnett is a British actress with a stage career, with previous roles in theater plays such as Yerma, Octavia, and The Memory of Water.

Burnett’s first foray into television will be in Season 2 of The Sandman, where she will portray a Guardswoman.


Emmanuela Lia as Naya

Emmanuela Lia is an experienced Greek actress best known for her roles in Bridges and Sins of Solitude, among other Greek films and television series.

In the second season of The Sandman, Lia will portray a character called Naya. Given that she’s Greek and the character’s name, Naya, we can assume she will be involved in “The Song of Orpheus” episodes of The Sandman Season 2.


Ben Allen as Simon

Ben Allen is a British actor who has appeared on television in shows such as Cursed, World on Fire, Doctors, Vigil, and more. He has also appeared in the films Julius Caeser and Another End.

Allen will play a character named Simon in Season 2 of The Sandman.


Johnny Labey in an Unknown Role

Jonny Labey is a young British actor best known for the role of Paul Coker in EastEnders, where he appeared in over 100 episodes. He has also appeared on television in Doctors, and in the films Soft Lad and Romeo and Juliet.

Labey has joined the cast of The Sandman Season 2 in an unknown role.


Ella Rumpf in an Unknown Role

Ella Rumpf is an experienced French actress best known for her roles in films such as Raw, Tiger Girl, War, and Marguerite’s Theorem. She has recently appeared in television series such as Succession and Tokyo Vice.

Rumpf has been on our radar since last year, but now it’s been confirmed that she joined the cast of The Sandman Season 2 in an unknown role.


Edward Chlerich in an Unknown Role

Edward Chlerich is an up and coming actor and model, who is set to appear in minor roles in various upcoming shows including The Rings of Power Season 2, Black Mirror Season 7 and others. He will appear as a younger version of James Marsden’s Tom in Sonic the Hedgehog 3.

In The Sandman Season 2, his role remains unknown at this time.

Ruairi O’Connor as Orpheus

Ruairi O’Connor is an experienced Irish actor known for his roles in The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, The Morning Show, and The Spanish Princess. Most recently, he appeared in the film King Frankie.

O’Connor is set to play a character named Orpheus. Fans of Neil Gaiman’s comic book series will know that Orpheus has a special relationship with Tom Sturigge’s Dream, but we won’t spoil it here.


Barry Sloane as Destruction

Barry Sloane is an experienced British actor with extensive roles in shows such as Revenge, Six, and Longmire. Besides his lengthy television career, Sloane has also lent his voice and appearance to the popular character Captain John Price in the video game series Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

In The Sandman‘s second season, Sloane will portray the Endless Destruction, a sibling of Sturrige’s Dream. Destruction is different from his siblings, as he is the only one of the Endless to abandon his realm and responsibilities.


Adrian Lester as Destiny

Adrian Lester is a known English actor, writer and director known for his roles in Hustle, Bonekickers, The Day after Tomorrow, Riviera and more.

In The Sandman Season 2, Lester will play Destiny.


Amber Rose Revah in an Unknown Role

Amber Rose Revah is an accomplished British actress known for the role of Dinah Madani in Netflix’s The Punisher series. She has also appeared in such shows as Last Light, Emerald City, Indian Summers, and Borgia and several feature films.

Rose Revah has been cast in an unknown role, and we expect it to be a substantial one.


Esme Creed-Miles as Delirium

Esme Creed-Miles is an English actress best known for the titular role in the television series Hannah. She has also appeared in shows such as Impact Winter, The Doll Factory, and The Legend of Vox Machina.

Creed-Miles has joined the cast of the second season of The Sandman as Delirium.


Paul Brennen as Captain Carnot

Paul Brennen is an accomplished actor who has appeared in many television series and films across the past three decades. He is best known for his roles in The Borgias, Alien 3, and Men in Black: International.

In The Sandman Season 2, Brennan will portray the character Captain Carnot. Fans of the comics believe he could be related to the historic French politician Lazare Carnot, who Tom Sturrige’s Dream comes across in an adventure with Jenna Coleman’s Johanna Constantine set in Paris, 1794.


Daphne Alexander as Bromie

Daphne Alexander is an experienced voice actress who has also appeared in films such as The Fourth Kind and television series such as Casualty and Zoi. In her extensive voice-acting career, she has lent her voice to video games such as Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey, Watchdogs: Legion, and the Skull and Bones.

Alexander will portray a character called Bromie, who is suspected to be one of the maenads associated with the Orpheus storyline.


Tafline Steen as Xantho

Tafline Steen is a young actress known for her television roles in The Athena, Father Brown, and Casualty.

Steen will portray a character named Xantho in Season 2 of The Sandman who, like Daphne Alexander’s Bromie, is expected to be a maenad associated with the Orpheus storyline.


Jordan Adene as Donnie Capax

Jordan Adene is an up-and-coming British actor known for his television roles in Young Wallander, Heirs of the Night, and Silverpoint.

Adene will portray the character Donnie Capax. This is most likely Danny Capax, son of Bernie Capax. Bernie appeared in the Sandman comics and was a lawyer affiliated with the Endless Destruction (Barry Sloane).


Gavin Spokes as Jeremy

Gavin Spokes is best known for the role of Lyonel Strong in HBO’s House of the Dragon. He has also appeared in shows such as Slow Horses, The Ipcress Files, and Andor, and has most recently appeared in the film Napoleon.

In Sandaman’s second season, Spokes will portray a character called Jeremy. It’s unclear how large his role will be, and if it is based on a character from the comics.


Kayode Akinyemi as Kris

Kayode Akinyemi is best known for the role of Kaysan in Netflix’s series Vikings: Valhalla. He has appeared in various other television series, such as Dear Jesus and Max Justice, as well as films such as I am Pilate and The Legend of Tarzan.

Kayode has joined the second season of The Sandman in the role of Kris. A character of the same name appeared in the comics, and was one of the caretakers of Orpheus (Ruairi O’Connor).


Daniel Hoffmann-Gill as Guillaume

Daniel Hoffmann-Gill is an English actor known for his television roles in Doctor Who, Galavant, and Sherlock. He has also appeared in films such as Dolittle, and The Cleansing Hour.

Hoffmann-Gill will portray the character Guillaume.


Andre Flynn in an Unknown Role

Andre Flynn is a young British actor known for the role of Gaston in The Musketeers, as well as roles in Jamestown and Silent Witness. Besides his television roles, Flynn has also appeared in films such as Blue Iguana and Papillion.

Burman has been cast in The Sandman‘s second season in an unknown role, although it seems likely this role will utilize his vocals as well as his acting.


Rilwan Abiola Owokoniran in an Unknown Role

Rilwan Abiola Owokoniran is a young actor with stage and musical experience and has appeared in the show McDonald and Dodds.

Owokoniran has been cast in an unknown role in the second season of The Sandman.
