By Although the second season of HBO’s hit series House of the Dragon wrapped last September, the Emma D’Arcy, Matt Smith and Olivia Cooke drama has returned to Leavesden Studios to do some additional filming. Today we have a little update as to how long that might take.
House of the Dragon will have battle reshoots in March
We initially reported that from their beginning at the start of February, the House of the Dragon Season 2 reshoots would take place for only two to three weeks.
Today we have an updated idea of the schedule as one our readers has sent us new info. We now know that the House of the Dragon Season 2 reshoots will continue at least until the middle of March 2024.
They could take place later than that as well, but March 13 is the latest date we currently know of. What’s also interesting is that the notice says “this is a battle scene“.
This could very well mean the Battle at Rook’s Rest, which was originally shot over two weeks back in August 2023 in Bourne Woods, primarily. To be clear, battle scenes are likely not the only thing they aim to reshoot, but we now know they are one of those things.
The first teaser trailer that HBO released treated us with some shots from that battle.
Whether the reshoots will have any effect on the Season 2 release date, we can once again only reference the recent comment from HBO executive Casey Bloys when he said the season would arrive “early summer”. That was in January, so he must have had knowledge of the reshoots by then and still said what he said.
Season 1 of House of the Dragon had reshoots as well. For example, that scene in the premiere episode with Rhaenyra and Viserys before the giant skull of Balerion was one of the scenes that was reshot later in production.
In any case, we’ll wait and see what happens next with the reshoots or as they call them “enhancements” and what’s the release date for Season 2 of House of the Dragon.
House of the Dragon Season 2 will premiere on HBO in Summer 2024. We will keep following the show as the promotional campaign kicks into high gear in the coming months.
