House of the Dragon Season 2 is about to wrap after almost six months of filming. The Game of Thrones prequel starring Emma D’Arcy, Matt Smith, and Olivia Cooke filmed its second season in three different countries and numerous locations, often with two units working simultaneously. While most of the plot details have been very guarded, we have learned new information that is interesting because it is a slight departure from the book’s plot.
Warning: Spoilers ahead
Aegon III will travel to the Eyrie with Rhaena Targaryen
We have learned that future King and currently Prince Aegon Targaryen, son of Daemon and Rhaenyra Targaryen will travel to the Eyrie with Rhaena Targaryen in Episode 7 of House of the Dragon Season 2.
In the book, it was only Joffrey Velaryon who traveled with Rhaena. Although it will probably not affect the outcome of the characters’ arcs in the long run, this change is interesting because it gives us something to speculate about.
A possible reason for this change could be that both Joffrey Velaryon and Aegon III have been aged down in the series. In the book, 12-year-old Joffrey was sent to the Vale because Lady Jeyne Arryn had requested that a dragon rider be present in the Vale to help its protection.
In the series, both Joffrey and his dragon Tyraxes are younger. Also, Aegon III in the series is a toddler, and his dragon Stormcloud is probably just a hatchling, which makes it challenging to adhere to the original plot for his character too.
Of course, we are just speculating about the reasons here, and the writers may have other novel ideas that we are not aware of just yet.
