Henry Cavill’s Final Scene in The Witcher Was Originally a Bit Different

The third season of Netflix’s The Witcher came and went, and in it we had Henry Cavill’s final moments as Geralt of Rivia. In Season 4 he will be replaced by Liam Hemsworth, but before that, we’d like to examine one piece of information we had for a while.

For this, we’ll go back all the way to Spring 2022, when Season 3 was just starting filming. Back then, we heard that one of the final scenes of the season was “Milva helping Geralt in need, while Cahir was watching them from afar”.

Having seen the final cut, it appears that what was actually intended in context of that scene was Geralt, Jaskier and Milva riding into the sunset, after Milva helps Geralt with the last Nilfgaardian soldiers, just like we saw, except afterwards the camera would seemingly cut to Cahir, watching them from afar, indicating that he’s following them and teasing Season 4 that way.

In the final version of the season, we never see Cahir again after his confrontation with Ciri during Thanedd, after which he took an elven squad off-camera.

We can’t say with certainty whether that Cahir bit was filmed and then cut in the editing room, or rewritten and never filmed in the first place. Either versions are possible since we heard this info at the beginning of the shoot in April 2022, while these scenes were filmed in August, therefore plenty of time to make changes.

Perhaps it was deemed too similar to Blood Origin‘s ending where we saw Avallac’h stalking Ciri from afar in Cintra. Alternatively, it’s possible that writers decided to go through with Cahir being a captive of the elves like in the books, instead of just stalking Geralt going into Season 4.

In any case, Cahir is expected to join Geralt, Jaskier and Milva in Season 4, production for which has been delayed until 2024.

The Witcher Season 4 is in production for a 2025 release. Andrzej Sapkowski’s new Witcher book has a planned Winter 2024/2025 release with The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep anime set for a late 2024 release as well.
