The Witcher Showrunner Teases Season 3 Release Date

The third season of Netflix’s The Witcher that will star Henry Cavill, Anya Chalotra and Freya Allan is deep in post-production has a confirmed release window of Summer 2023. That being said, showrunner Lauren Hissrich was asked whether Season 3 would be split in two parts like Stranger Things Season 4 and gave small tease as to when we’d see it.

The Witcher Season 3 Coming in July/August 2023?

During an interview with Collider, Lauren Hissrich dropped a hint as to when we’d see The Witcher Season 3 on Netflix. She said the following in December 2022: “We have a way still a very long time, eight-ish months or so until Witcher Season 3 comes out.”

Since the interview was taken in December, now, in January 2023 we have seven-ish months to go, which would put the Season 3 release date somewhere in July/August 2023. But that’s only a simple calculation and is yet to be confirmed.

Will The Witcher Season 3 be Split in Two Parts?

During the same interview, Hissrich was asked about the possibility of splitting the upcoming season into two installments. Her answer was not affirmative as some outlets were suggesting, but nor it was negative. Hissrich stated that they haven’t discussed that possibility yet, but if it came to that, wouldn’t rule it out. Still, they would prefer to release Season 3 all at once:

“We haven’t discussed that [splitting the season] yet, but at this point I think what we see happening across all sort of streamers, I wouldn’t rule it out. […] So God willing, we get it all out at the same time. But who knows, we’ll see what happens.”

If it came to that and Netflix decided to split The Witcher Season 3 in two, we could imagine a possibility of 5 + 3 episodes. The first five episodes are meant to build up to the biggest event of the entire series: the Thanedd coup. The coup itself will happen in Episode 6 of Season 3 and that could end up being a strong opening of the second part of the season.

But as much as we can speculate, it’s far more likely that Season 3 will be released all at once and Lauren’s release month tease is the more valuable information we can gather from this.
