Henry Cavill to Present The Witcher at Netflix’s TUDUM Event

It’s September, which means Netflix is ready for the second among two of its annual showcases. In June it’s Netflix Geeked, now – Tudum. This year the virtual TUDUM event will take place on September 24 and will be live-streamed on Netflix’s YouTube channel. The 2022 edition is also of a great interest to us since we’ll see none other than Henry Cavill and The Witcher during the program.

Henry Cavill during TUDUM 2021

As far as we can tell, the main item for Henry Cavill to present is something related to The Witcher Season 3, which finished its production last week. We doubt it’s a teaser or a trailer since it’s too early for that. Perhaps some short behind-the-scenes clip saying something along the lines of “coming soon” or “coming 2023”.

A proper teaser wouldn’t be unheard of, however. HBO’s hit House of the Dragon did publish a teaser trailer while filming was still halfway, so it can be done if the network is willing, but the Netflix marketing usually doesn’t operate this way.

As for beyond Season 3, we recently reported on Netflix’s plans to produce The Witcher Season 4 and 5 back-to-back. We have no idea whether this will be a topic at TUDUM, but we are hoping they will say something.

The Witcher: Blood Origin will also be featured at TUDUM

Michelle Yeoh in The Witcher: Blood Origin

After it’s noticeable absence during Netflix’s Geeked Week in June, The Witcher: Blood Origin live-action prequel will finally reemerge during TUDUM. While we don’t know what will we see exactly from the Michelle Yeoh-starring limited series, one could bet money that Netflix will finally announce the release date along with a trailer.

Last we heard, the release date for The Witcher: Blood Origin was reportedly December 25, 2022. Someone else claimed it would be October, but Tudum would be very late to start promoting a product releasing just the following month. We’ll see very soon which is it, but we’re leaning towards December as it’s more realistic.

As you recall, earlier this year Blood Origin underwent some reshoots with The Witcher Season 1 director Alex Garcia Lopez. The episode count of the limited series was also reduced from six to four as part of a major overhaul.

As for other projects in the Witcher Cinematic Universe at TUDUM, we know some were in development. Perhaps we could get a word or two about those as well.

Season 3 of The Witcher is in post-production for a 2023 release. The live-action prequel The Witcher: Blood Origin is in post-production after two weeks of reshoots and is currently eyed for a Christmas 2022 release.
