The Witcher Season 3 Update: Night shoots with Ciri, Day shoots with Geralt, and more

The cast and crew of The Witcher are working hard on the new season of the Netflix series, both inside Longcross Studios and on location. Now, in the middle of June, they must be approximately halfway there until the wrap in September.

Today we’ll recap what’s been happening inside and outside the studio regarding The Witcher Season 3. The current active director is Gandja Monteiro, who is durecting episodes 3 and 4 of the new season.

The Witcher and the bard together again

As luck smiled on us, just recently we had the chance to spot Henry Cavill‘s Geralt and Joey Batey‘s Jaskier filming in Surrey. Here are those images again:

It isn’t surprising to see them reunite as they are best friends after all. But perhaps they were not alone?

Is Milva involved as well?

Interestingly, in a closer cut of the video by Joanice, there’s a black haired woman walking behind them in a blue jacket. One would assume Anya Chalotra‘s Yennefer, but we have a theory it could actually be Milva.

The fact of the matter is, Meng’er Zhang, who will portray Milva, was scheduled to attend the Starfury Conventions that would take place from June 10 to June 12, but had to drop out due to her obligations to The Witcher.

The video above was taken right on June 10, so that part checks out.

We’re thinking the black haired woman may be Meng’er Zhang‘s Milva as her current hair length is just right. This is her just a week ago at the Awesome Con:

But, with all that said, the woman could also end up being a crew member.

Day shoots with Geralt turning into night shoots with Ciri

Perhaps one of the most hardworking people on set these days was director Gandja Monteiro, who was doing the aforementioned Geralt and Jaskier scene during the day, while also doing night shoots around the same location later at night.

The night shoots, as far as we know, included a camp with stunt people, extras and horses. We also have heard that those scenes included at least Freya Allan‘s Ciri. We don’t know much else about what’s going on there and who else is with her.

Monteiro shared some other pictures from Longcross Studios earlier in the week:

And we ourselves have two more photos from the set:

King of the Elves doesn’t like humans, but surely likes teasing

Meanwhile, Tom Canton (Filavandrel), is teasing the formation of the ruthless elven guerillas called Scoia’tael that we’ll finally see in the new season. Canton posted the following little video from the set, which was followed by a lore video about the group.

Canton also teased from behind the scenes along with Royce Pierreson (Istredd)

As far as teasing goes, casting director Sophie Holland also teased a week ago with the shot of Anya Chalotra’s trailer door:

Lady Owl goes to work

Philippa Eilhart is one of the most anticipated characters of the new season and it does look like we’ll finally be seeing more of her. Cassie Clare just recently shared her going to the set, while getting into her “owl zone” and coming back.

And since Philippa was working, Dijkstra and Graham McTavish must have been also nearby.

Season 3 of The Witcher is in production until September 2022 for a 2023 release. The live-action prequel The Witcher: Blood Origin is in post-production after two weeks of reshoots and is currently eyed for a Christmas 2022 release.
