New pictures of last week’s The Witcher filming tease Yen and Ciri crossing a river

Last week, Netflix’s The Witcher filmed a scene involving its two female stars, Anya Chalotra (Yennefer) and Freya Allan (Ciri), and one photographer was able to capture good pictures of the actresses and their doubles on location. The prospect of these two characters sharing a scene excited the fandom, as did Yennefer’s beautiful new costume. Today, we have a few more pictures of the set and the actresses, courtesy of photographer David Forster and Alamy Stock Photos. Unfortunately, we can’t share the pictures here due to image copyright, but we’ll share the links below so you can see them youself.

New pictures of Yennefer and Ciri

The first new image depicts Yennefer and Ciri’s stunt doubles mounted on their horses. As seen in previous images of the scene, Yennefer is riding a brown horse while Ciri rides a white horse. The stunt doubles can be seen wearing masks between takes due to COVID concerns, and it’s good to see the cast and crew take health measures seriously.

The second image depicts Yennefer and Ciri actresses Anya Chalotra and Freya Allan as they’re about to film a crane shot on the riverbank. This gives us another look at Chalotra’s new Yennefer costume.

So we can clearly see that Yennefer and Ciri reach the location on horseback, and then dismount and walk to the riverbank on foot. According to one onlooker, the actresses were yelling something during the scene. We have a pretty good guess at what may be happening, and more pictures of the set seem to support this claim.

Of course, if you’ve missed last week’s report, make sure to check it out via the link below as it has many more pictures of the cast and crew at Low Force Waterfall.

The set at Low Force Waterfall

As we found out last week, Netflix installed a ruined bridge on the banks of the River Tees. It seems rather likely, then, that Yennefer and Ciri were planning to use this bridge to cross the river, only to find that it has collapsed. But Yennefer of Vengerberg would never back down from a challenge, would she?

In some of these pictures, we can see that the bridge has been lifted out of the water during filming, using the ropes and pulleys the crew installed on location. We believe that this will be Yennefer’s doing. A powerful mage such as herself would certainly be able to restore the bridge and allow herself and her ward Ciri to cross to the other side, with or without their horses. This may also be related to the yelling heard by locals, which could be Yennefer and/or Ciri uttering the words of a spell.

A broken bridge would be a great opportunity to teach Ciri a lesson about magic, as Yennefer does in the late chapters of Blood of Elves. Maybe the bridge’s restoration will be a test for Ciri? We’ll have to wait and see.

Yennefer and Ciri’s relationship is one of the highlights of Blood of Elves, and we can’t wait to see the show’s adaption of it. Tell us what you think of our speculation on the scene in the comments below.
