New cast members wrap filming in Kaer Morhen for The Witcher season 2

The Witcher season two will take Geralt (Henry Cavill) and Ciri (Freya Allan) to Kaer Morhen, the ruin where all the witchers belonging to the School of the Wolf are trained at childhood. There, they will meet a number of new witchers from Geralt’s past, including his mentor and father figure Vesemir (Kim Bodnia) and the witchers Coën (Yasen Atour), Lambert (Paul Bullion) and Eskel (Thue Rasmussen). Until recently, it appeared that the show’s Kaer Morhen scenes will be similar to those in the novel Blood of Elves, but a series of new additions to the cast imply that the show is adding some interesting new material.

Naturally, there will be potential spoilers below the cut, so proceed at your own discretion.

After learning that season two will add several original witcher characters, all of whom will participate in a fight scene that involves the central Kaer Morhen cast (listed above), another batch of new cast members comes as a bit more of a surprise. Emily Byrt, who was first mentioned by another fan site, appears to have joined the cast and interacted with the characters of Kaer Morhen.

Joining her are model-actresses Chloe King and Sandy Amon Schwartz. Other models and actresses that seem to be involved include Claira Watson Parr, Maria Raduga, and Tash Soodeen. It is possible there were more actresses and actors involved. From what we have learned, they all wrapped filming on The Witcher yesterday, after a grueling 14 hours shoot.

What are these women doing in Kaer Morhen? Unfortunately, things have been rather secretive of late, with the production holed up in Arborfield Studios. Seeing as the show previously established that there are no female witchers on the Continent, this option does not seem very likely.

However, before filming began for season two, a casting breakdown was leaked by insider Daniel Richtman and one role on that list matches the age of the actresses mentioned above.

The character codenamed Anna (probably a placeholder name) is set to appear in one episode, and the casting team were looking for actresses aged 25-30. Anna is described as follows:

“A fierce sex worker, she joins a group of soldiers who she isn’t afraid to boss around.”

Interestingly, while the witchers of Kaer Morhen weren’t explicitly called soldiers in their casting descriptions, they were listed as “warriors” and “warrior-type”. We believe we might be close to something here.

If one of these actresses is playing the role of Anna, it’s possible the witchers of Kaer Morhen have invited some sex workers into the fortress. Why would they do that if the secrecy of the fortress’ location is paramount? And how would they fit into the action scene that involves so many witchers fighting something powerful? Those are really good questions, but honestly, we’re currently at a loss trying to explain that.

Of course, they could also be completely different roles that weren’t on Richtman’s list.

Aside from the ladies, young actor Basil Eidenbenz was also involved in the new Kaer Morhen scene. It’s quite possible that he is another one of the new witchers but, unlike the others, he doesn’t seem to have stunt experience. Speaking of the new witchers, it appears that stunt performer Nicolas Wang was also involved in the fight scene.

From what we can tell, this added Kaer Morhen sequence and the aforementioned fight scene were filmed by director Stephen Surjik (Umbrella Academy) and so it is likely to appear in the show’s second episode. How these new cast members will figure in the story of The Witcher season two is yet to be determined, and we’d love to hear your thoughts on the matter in the comment section below or on our twitter page.

  1. Maybe a flashback fight of the attack to Kaer Morhen? Idk I can not make sence of the scene with the books unless they completely changed them. Nevertheless, I can’t wait for more Geralt and more monsters and fighting scenes. I hope they are as good as Geralt VS Renfri and her gang or Geralt VS the striga. But I’d also love more scenes between Geralt and Yen. Maybe on a quest together where they discuss their true feelings? Come on Lauren. Henry and Anya are brilliant together to waste them.

    1. This was my thought as well. In the novel, when Triss arrives at KM, she is first greeted by Ciri running the Killer outside the walls. They ride into the fortress and pass mounds of bones of unburied dead from the massacre. Ciri says Vesemir said they should be left out for skme reason and goes into a short trance, seemingly communing with the dead and givez a brief prophecy to Triss. She snaps out of it quite unfazed. So that could easily be a scene in the show.

  2. I have a bad feeling about this, it may only mean second season will be even less faithful to novels than the first one. This is disappointing and doesn’t make sense, unless it’s some sort of unneeded flashback but this would ruin the entire story of Ciri’s training in Kaer Morhen if indeed a bunch of new characters other than the ones from the novel would be there not to mention all those females and ‘sex worker’?! I’m done this is getting ridiculous. Not to mention it was supposed to be the point that the male witchers had little notion how to raise a girl as there was no other females present in Kaer Morhen until Triss arrived…ughhh.
