Henry Cavill is the absolute superstar of Netflix’s The Witcher and by far the biggest name in the cast, but there is a possibility that another big actor has joined the team: Kristofer Hivju, who a lot of you know as Tormund Giantsbane from HBO’s Game of Thrones.
Why do we think this may be the case? Several reasons, but let’s go through them one by one. First there was this Instagram post by director Stephen Surjik who, as we previously wrote, has been scouting locations for Season 2. In his (now deleted) Witcher-related post he tagged Kristofer Hivju along with Henry Cavill and Anya Chalotra.
We ignored it at the time, because it seemed very random. Then, a few days later, we decided to do our research on this topic because Stephen and Kristofer have never worked together before.
We have found that there are some very curious social media connections between Team Hivju and Team Witcher. Kristofer himself followed not one, not two, but three Witcher accounts lately, and there are also connections between Hivju’s agent and The Witcher‘s casting team. Moreover, when asked about this, our sources told us that they’ve heard something about Kristofer before, but no specifics were given and they aren’t sure.
In short, we have reasons to believe that Kristofer Hivju may have been cast in The Witcher, but we could be wrong. Still, our case on Emma Appleton as Renfri (and others) has been built on less and it turned out to be correct.
If Kristofer is indeed cast, and it’s currently a big “if”, who could he play? Our best guess would be Nivellen, the man who was cursed and now looks like a bear. As we previously reported, the short story “A Grain of Truth” will be adapted in Season 2. Kristofer fits Nivellen’s physique and the vibe perfectly and it would be a great one-episode guest role by a known actor. Funnily enough, as a lot of you may know, this wouldn’t be the first time Kristofer’s character had something to do with bears.
As we said, this is an educated speculation, so take this with a grain of
truth salt. We have reached out to Netflix for comment.
