With Season 1 of The Witcher come and gone, we look into the future and see what Season 2 has in store for us. Here we will break down everything we know so far about the next chapter of the Henry Cavill series.

How many episodes will be in Season 2?

The Wrap confirms that, just like Season 1, there will be 8 episodes in Season 2.

How far along is the writing?

According to writer Declan de Barra, the scripts for Season 2 are already done! We, of course, had that impression as we reported back in September that the writers room was operating in full swing.

Where will Season 2 be filmed?

Netflix has confirmed that the principal photography of the second season will take place in London, UK. No specific locations are known at this point. Additional filming locations and countries such as Canary Islands are yet to be announced.

When will Season 2 be released?

The Wrap confirms that Season 2 will be released on Netflix in 2021. When in 2021 isn’t confirmed at this point, but we can speculate. Production of Season 1 will have taken 14 months from filming to release. Having this number in mind with a production start of February 2020, our educated guess would be the Spring 2021.

Who is returning for the next chapter?

Cast: Netflix confirms that the main trio, Henry Cavill, Anya Chalotra and Freya Allan will return as Geralt, Yennefer and Ciri respectively. Royce Pierreson and MyAnna Buring have also confirmed the return of Istredd and Tissaia de Vries. Additional returning cast will be announced at a later date.

While not explicitly confirmed yet, also a safe bet would be Joey Batey (Jaskier), Eamon Farren (Cahir), Anna Shaffer (Triss Merigold), Mahesh Jadu (Vilgefortz), Therica Wilson-Read (Sabrina Glevissig), Mimi Ndiweni (Fringilla Vigo) and Jeremy Crawford (Yarpen Zigrin).

Crew: The Wrap lists showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich and executive producers Tomek Baginski, Jarek Sawko, Mike Ostrowski, Jason Brown, Sean Daniel and Steve Gaub. Executive producer and director of several episodes of Season 1 Alik Sakharov isn’t listed and thus may not return. Costume designer Tim Aslam also will not return. The new costume designer for The Witcher is Lucinda Wright.

Writers: Returning writers are Lauren S. Hissrich (101, 108), Beau DeMayo (103), Declan de Barra (104), Sneha Koorse (105), Haily Hall (106) and Mike Ostrowski (107). Matthew D’Ambrosio, who has been a script coordinator for the first season, has confirmed on his Instagram that he has been promoted to a staff writer.

Not everyone will be returning. Jenny Klein, who wrote the second episode of Season 1 has struck an overall deal with Amazon and isn’t expected to return.

Directors: Nothing about the directors of the next season is known at this point. They will be revealed at a later date, according to Netflix.

What books will Season 2 will be based on?

Little is known at this stage, but as Season 1 has covered most of the short stories from The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny, it’s likely Season 2 will start from Blood of Elves and maybe even peek into Time of Contempt. As for the remaining short stories that didn’t appear in Season 1, we have reported that one of them will indeed be adapted according to our sources.

This is all we know for far about The Witcher Season 2, but it’s just the beginning and like the Redanian spymaster Sigismund Dijkstra, who we expect to debut in the next season, we will call in our sources to discover more and more new details.

  1. Top 3 Most Anticipated Casting Announcements:

    Philippa Eilhart
    Maria Barring
    Leo Bonhart

While I don’t expect to see the latter two in S2, I will be upset if we don’t get some Philippa.
