First Sighting of Yennefer in The Witcher Season 5

As we reported very recently, The Witcher‘s final season has started filming in Wales. First location was a familiar one, the Trefil Quarry that we saw in Season 3 during the Thanedd episodes. Now filming has moved to another location in South Wales and we finally have a small glimpse of Anya Chalotra’s Yennefer on set.

Yennefer spotted on The Witcher Season 5 set.. among Nilfgaardians

Unfortunately, the photo is very blurry, but one can make out Anya Chalotra’s features here. This appears to be during a break as she has a raincoat on. The location was a harbor in South Wales, near St. David’s

The other curious part is that Yennefer is among Nilfgaardians in this scene. You can clearly see Nilfgaardian golden armors in there. That is rather strange as Yennefer doesn’t go to Nilfgaard until later in the story, but perhaps there is an explanation.

Is this Skellige occupied by Nilfgaard?

We know that Skellige will be featured in the final season as we have reported on several castings including Kate Dickie as Sigrdrifa, a priestess of Freya on Hindarsfjall. In the books, she does interact with Yennefer and in the show she must as well. Moreover, the place itself looks coastal and cold, and the population seems like they could be from Netflix’s version of Skellige.

Why Nilfgaardians then? Skellige has stood strong and didn’t have much trouble in the Northern Wars aside from a blockade by Nilfgaard, but never occupied like this. Perhaps the book version of Yennefer’s Skellige quest was deemed not dramatic enough by Netflix and they decided to add more excitement and tension in the form of foreign occupiers where she ends up after escaping the Lodge of Sorceresses.

It’ll definitely be curious to find out what Netflix has in store for Skellige with Yennefer and whether what we see is indeed Nilfgaard having occupied the isles.

On a side note, this confirms that the new Nilfgaardian armors we saw last year for Season 4 weren’t the usual ones, but rather some sort of special unit. The soldiers above are still in the usual golden armors, while last year we saw soldiers in black armor.

The Witcher Season 4 is in post-production for a 2025 release. Andrzej Sapkowski’s new Witcher book Crossroads of Ravens is available in Poland and will be released internationally in September 2025. CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher 4 is now in full production.
