Highlander is an upcoming movie starring Henry Cavill and helmed by Chad Stahelski, director of all John Wick movies. Described as “John Wick with swords”, Highlander currently has a 2026 release window. Today we have an update regarding its filming schedule.

The latest news is that Highlander‘s production start has been delayed from January 2025 to May 2025. That is likely due to Cavill’s next film Voltron being scheduled to film from December 2024 until April 2025.

The previous delay was also caused by scheduling conflicts as director Chad Stahelski had to reshoot a very significant portion of Ballerina, the John Wick spinoff, earlier this year.

That said, very early pre-production for Highlander has already started in September and should pick up as time goes on. Intended filming locations for the movie include Scotland, Italy and Hong Kong, meaning location scouting has been going on as well.

Earlier this year as Henry Cavill teased the sword choreography for the movie during one of his interviews:  “If you think you’ve seen me do sword work before, you haven’t seen anything yet.

Both Cavill and Stahelski remained very tight-lipped about the plot of Highlander, but said that they were “going deep into the meaning of these characters, their trials and tribulations.

Stahelski also commented: “Our story engages a lot of the same characters and stuff like that. But we’ve also brought in elements of all the TV shows, and we’re trying to do a bit of a prequel, a setup to The Gathering, so we have room to grow the property.

Chad Stahelski’s Highlander is due out in 2026 according to Lionstage chairman Joe Drake. Stay tuned for further updates.
