CD Projekt Red Gives a New Update on The Next Witcher Game

The year now is 2024, which means The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be 10 years old next year after its original release in 2015. Everyone is eager to know what comes next and when. We don’t know when, but we have an idea how things are progressing.

Next major Witcher game still in pre-production

During an investor event, CDPR’s Chief Financial Officer Piotr Nielubowicz presented a couple of new tidbits about what’s next for the company, including The Witcher.

Nielubowicz said: “The bulk of effort is currently devoted to Polaris, the first installment of the new Witcher trilogy, which now engages over 400 team members.

Accompanying the video, CDPR also dropped their presentation in which we can see that Polaris aka the next major Witcher game is in pre-production.

You can also notice that Sirius, the multiplayer Witcher game developed by The Molasses Flood studio is also in pre-production. It was in development before, but was rebooted and reworked over the past year.

As for The Witcher 1 remake, it’s still in the concept stage. That makes sense as Fool’s Theory, the studio that will be developing the game, has just released their new game called The Thaumaturge on March 4, 2024. So they are fresh off that project and didn’t have a lot of time to dedicate to The Witcher until very recently.

Here’s the chart of how the CDPR team is divided by projects. As you can see, the new Witcher game takes absolute priority with 64% of all CDPR staff working on Polaris.

The Witcher Season 4 is in production for a 2025 release. Andrzej Sapkowski’s new Witcher book has a planned Winter 2024/2025 release with The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep anime set for a late 2024 release as well.
