News on the Netflix’s The Witcher haven’t been exactly plentiful in the last couple of months, aside from the upcoming anime The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep that is set for a late 2024 release. Going into 2024, things will become more active again as pre-production for Season 4 will pick up the pace soon.
Pre-production for The Witcher Season 4 to kick into full gear in January 2024
We’ve already reported months ago that even during the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, some departments that weren’t attached to acting or writing, were already doing some work on The Witcher Season 4, but in lighter capacity than usual due to the circumstances.
Now things are ready for the next phase of pre-production of The Witcher Season 4 and it will kick into full gear in January 2024. So technically the season has been in light pre-production for months, but it won’t be full steam ahead until next month.
There is no concrete filming date yet, but we do know that active pre-production on The Witcher normally takes place for around 8-10 weeks, so we’re likely looking at a March/April filming start. Moreover, this looks exactly like the Season 3 timeline where pre-production began in January 2022 and filming started on March 31.
With this possible timetable in mind, Season 4 should be wrapped by the end of the year. Netflix haven’t announced the release date for Season 4, but given the very similar timetable as with Season 3, a Summer 2025 release would make a lot of sense.
One key difference here is that unlike Season 3 that was standalone, Netflix plans to film Season 4, make a short pause, then start filming Season 5, but we’ll see how it goes when we get there.
The Witcher Season 4 is in production for a 2025 release. Andrzej Sapkowski’s new Witcher book has a planned Winter 2024/2025 release with The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep anime set for a late 2024 release as well.
