House of the Dragon Season 2 Starts Pre-Production

HBO’s hit series House of the Dragon starring Emma D’Arcy, Matt Smith and Olivia Cooke proved to be the true heir to Game of Thrones and became the most talke-about fantasy series of 2022. A renewal for Season 2 was inevitable and we are now waiting for filming to start in the next few months. But before that, we have another update on its progress.

House of the Dragon Season 2 now in pre-production

We have learned that Season 2 of House of the Dragon is now finally in pre-production at Leavesden Studios, UK. Our previous report was that pre-production would start around October 2022 as that was the plan back then, but obviously things got pushed back.

It is unclear when will the filming begin for House of the Dragon Season 2. In the previous months, there were various reports about cameras starting to roll in March 2023, but we don’t know whether that was according to the older schedule or if that is still the plan.

Back in September 2022, the Spanish Hoy magazine reported that HBO was planning to return to the town of Caceres to film House of the Dragon Season 2 from Match to June 2023. Filming wouldn’t be the entire time, but the approximate aim is clear.

It is possible that the filming start may have been pushed back as well. We hope to learn more very soon.

House of the Dragon Season 2 release date won’t be in 2023

So when is it expected to come out? The anticipation for the next season is very high, but we are still in the early stages so one must be very patient. For example, the first season of House of the Dragon took approximately 11 months to film. Considering filming for Season 2 starts in the next few months, it will be a while and a 2023 release is impossible.

HBO executive Casey Bloys said as much in an October Vulture interview: “Don’t expect it in 2023, but I think sometime in 2024. We’re just starting to put the plan together, and just like last time, there are so many unknowns. It’s not to be coy or secretive, but you don’t want to say it’s going to be ready on this date, and then you have to move it.”

We cannot wait for House of the Dragon Season 2 news and will keep a close eye on it. If you like The Witcher too, we invite you to read or main category where we closely follow the production of Season 3 and the other spinoffs.
