PHOTO: The Witcher Films an Iconic Fight From the Books for Season 3

The upcoming season of The Witcher just recently passed a significant milestone, having largely wrapped half of its episodes last week. But today is a new day for the Henry Cavill, Anya Chalotra and Freya Allan series as filming continues in Wales on a new location.

UPDATE: We now know that one of the most anticipated scenes for the entire series has been filming there!

Clash of the Titans: Geralt vs. Vilgefortz

One of the most iconic and anticipated scene for Season 3 and the entire series overall is Geralt of Rivia fighting Vilgefortz of Roggeveen in Time of Contempt. This happens during the Thanedd Coup.

Well, ladies and gentlemen, here it is thanks to photographer Edryd Wyn Williams:

As you can see, just like in the books, Geralt is with his sword and Vilgefortz is using his staff! It does look like Vilgefortz got him good in the stomach and we see Geralt’s face all bloody in one of the shots.

We couldn’t confirm which episode is this from, but since director Gandja Monteiro has wrapped, it could be directed by either Loni Peristere (5/6) or Bola Ogun (7/8).

UPDATE 2: Thanks to newest images, we can now clearly see Vilgefortz’s new outfit and staff. Also we can see that it wasn’t Mahesh Jadu fighting Henry Cavill, but a stuntman. Or more likely the filming featured both Mahesh and the stuntman at different point of the day as Jadu would do the general things where his face is required, while stuntpeople usually do the more complex movements.

Nevertheless, Jadu has been training his staff combat skills since 2019 as he posted a video of his training back then:

It’s also worth mentioning that Wolfgang Stegemann, the Blaviken fight coordinator, is back for The Witcher Season 3, so it will be definitely a sight to see.

Another batch of photos was published by Wales Online:

The Witcher Films at Three Cliffs Bay

Filming for the new week began right on Monday morning at the beach of Three Cliffs Bay. As you can see in the photos below, quite a bit of activity.

Sadly, one can’t properly see much, but if you squint, there may be a few people visible who wear dresses. Could one of them be Anya Chalotra‘s Yennefer?

UPDATE: After seeing Geralt and Vilgefortz, it’s clear that the person in the black robe was actually him and not Yennefer.

Later, closer to the afternoon, filming moved from the beach to the cliffs above:

It’s difficult to say who and what is filming, but we do know Mahesh Jadu is in Wales, so we can only assume Vilgefortz and very likely other mages are involved.

Perhaps since Vilgefortz is involved, maybe that is indeed Yennefer in the black dress and with dark loose hair in the images above? Hopefully we’ll get more images with the cast soon to see for certain who is and isn’t there.

Filming in Three Cliffs Bay is expected to take place two more days, so here’s hoping.
