House of the Dragon Season 2 Aiming for Late 2022 Filming Start

The first season of the highly-anticipated prequel to HBO’s Game of Thrones is coming to the small screen on August 21, 2022, but as we reported earlier, work has already begun on House of the Dragon Season 2!

Filming already planned for House of the Dragon Season 2

In May we reported that writing had begun for the second season of House of the Dragon, implying that HBO had quietly given the show a green light to continue.

Now we are hearing that filming for House of the Dragon Season 2 is currently planned to begin in late 2022. We weren’t given an exact month, but as much as we heard, HBO was aiming for an approximately Fall/Winter 2022 production start.

That said, these dates are never set in stone and are always subject to change. That usually happens when the team starts pre-production and they gradually get a better idea when can they realistically start filming as opposed to setting an approximate date months prior.

Still, it’s already good news to know that HBO knows at least approximately when they want to start creating the next chapter set in Westeros again.

House of the Dragon Season 2 release date

As we speculated last time, even if filming began late 2022, they would hardly make it for a late 2023 release date. Keep in mind that Season 1 of House of the Dragon spent 11 months filming, so they definitely are one of those productions that prefer to take their time to make everything right and not to rush things. Game of Thrones fans would know based on experience, that cannot be a bad thing.

If we had to pick a guess, we’d say early 2024 release for Season 2. They could even pick a symbolic April 2024 release date as April has always been the Game of Thrones month in the last decade. Still, it’s way too early to tell so we’ll definitely need to be patient.

We cannot wait for August 21 to return to Westeros once again after all these years. If you like The Witcher too, we invite you to read or main category where we closely follow the production of Season 3 and the other spinoffs.
