Filming of The Witcher Season 3 continues in Epping forest

Production for Season 3 of The Witcher is in full swing these days. Last week cast and crew were in one location of the Epping Forest, where they filmed before the Easter break, and now they are moving to another spot.

We have pictures of the set that was built at the Strawberry Hill Pond in Epping Forest and something else is happening at Jacks Hill as well. These looks like very fancy tents and some other curious props like kegs, barrels, tables, etc and also braziers. Filming here is taking place at night and will continue until the end of the week.

While we can’t say what exactly is being filmed there, we can theorize by the looks that it might be Belleteyn that Geralt, Ciri and Yennefer attend early in the season. The place looks unlike any other camp we’ve seen so far in The Witcher and looks somewhat fancy and festive compared to those. Plus, these will be night shoots, so that also fits. But this is only a theory.

  1. These tents, then night and a nice campfire and then it’s actually very similar to how I imagined Belleteyn in the book. I’m really looking forward to the bonding between Geralt, Yennefer and Ciri

  2. I hope you are right! Also the fact that they’ll film for a few more days is good if it’s the belleteyn scene bc I wouldn’t want them to rush it. I need family time and bonding. The tents look nice, I didn’t imagine tents in the belleteyn scene in the books (it’s some time since I read sod and I don’t remember if it mentions tents) but it makes sense for the show and it would be a nice parallel with the tent scene in s1 if they’ll go there.
Thanks for the info RI, let’s hope in the next days we’ll get some pics with the actors

  4. The set looks beautiful and too festive! I hope it’s for Beltane and not wasted in any other secondary characters story! I want as much Geralt Yennefer and Ciri as possible this season without action or other characters. It’s the writers last chance to give us their relationship before all hell break loose at the end of the season and our last chance to see them together and happy for a long time. Unless they’ll show flashbacks with them, dreams or they don’t follow the books in the next seasons or all the above. But their time together this season is necessary and crucial to do it right after the mess of s2.

    1. no expectations at all. they ruined brokilon, they ruined ciri and yen. for some reason they rush everything but still it is dull and boring. s3 will be the turning point for Henry I think, if it doesnt go well he will jump on W40k wagon

  5. Like others here I think that s3 will be decisive for further seasons to be greenlit or not. It isn’t even so far fetched that they wouldn’t. First, Netflix don’t have much attachment to their series projects if they don’t develop as expected, and I think the fan backlash for s2 was not to their expectations. Second, with Netflix now losing subscribers, they will be far more critical about the cost vs return factors of their series projects. That may have various consequences and could turn out critical for series projects which are costly because set design, CGI and such while they turn out not to meet with universal acclaim by critics as well as fan community. Third, the book material gets into somewhat terse territory with BoF when the plot starts meandering, taking a Western-Road Movie style for a considerable while. When I read the books, I didn’t enjoy that part very much, and non-book readers might find it even harder to relate to. So there are chances that s3 might be the last that Netflix will produce. On the other hand, they have built up a sprawling franchise universe with all the prequel projects, animes and what not, and the announcement of a TW4 game could well create new momentum for the show in economic terms.

    1. Perhaps there will be a budget cut for future seasons which may not be a bad thing. Maybe then they’ll focus more on the characters and less in the cgi. Even if I loved the cgi in s2 the story is what makes a show. I really wish they’ll start listening Henry and stay true to the books, he understands what fans want bc he is a fan of the books and he doesn’t desire to change them or to prove that he can do better than the author. His inputs in s2 saved Geralt for me. The rest of the stories made no sense. I hope the fan reactions opened their eyes. BOF has a fellowship of the ring element that fans may love. Every book have different tone and I have no idea how they’ll handle it.

    2. They had the perfect opportunity to make a spectacular s2. The budget was up, after the success of s1 the anticipation was there and most of all the source material was great but… 😞. It’s crucial s3 to be a success. Also the gap between the seasons is not in their favor. I hope S3 will come out next spring instead of December 2023.
