The Witcher’s ‘Blood Origin’ prequel to start production in July 2021

After the recent wrap of The Witcher Season 2 things have been relatively quiet, but now that the series is in post-production, we won’t be hearing very much until Netflix actually decide to drop some teasers our way. Regarding Blood Origin, the prequel that will star Laurence O’Fuarain as Fjall, things will get underway soon, despite the recent departure of lead actress Jodie Turner-Smith and the production delay that caused her to do that.

We have learned that filming for The Witcher: Blood Origin is currently planned to take place between late July and late November 2021 with pre-production starting in May. Keep in mind, though, that times are turbulent right now and dates may unexpectedly change again, as it happened several times with Season 2 of The Witcher.

What could this mean for Season 3 of The Witcher? We’ve been hearing that the intention was to start the production for Season 3 rather quickly after Blood Origin, so we may be looking approximately at a Winter 2021/2022 start date (December – February).

In other news, actor and director Jon Prophet has joined Blood Origin as a character named ‘The Severed‘ according to his IMDb. Normally IMDb shouldn’t be taken as a source, but this is just too random for someone to be messing around there.

Season 2 of The Witcher is currently in post-production for a release later this year. Stay tuned for more news!

  1. It would be a better idea to get the screenplay of The Witcher show straight and not to meddle too much with the book material than to invest efforts into a prequel. Or maybe they are not planning on investing effort, that might explain something
