Season 2 of The Witcher to enter production in February 2020

While we’re waiting for the first season of Netflix’s The Witcher, pre-production for the second season has already started and its release is expected sometime in 2021 with Henry Cavill, Anya Chalotra and Freya Allan returning as Geralt, Yennefer and Ciri respectively.

We’ve heard that filming would start in February 2020 and wrap in the beginning of August. The start date is now confirmed via Production Weekly, while the wrap date is yet to be verified.

(Note: Production Weekly lists directors of Season 1 as well as Budapest as a location, but that is most likely a placeholder while the real Season 2 directors are yet to be revealed).

We also know that they’re already scouting for filming locations for Season 2. Executive producer Tomek Baginski confirmed this in our interview with him: “We are still scouting in all Europe, including Poland, so it is hard to say how much we will shoot and where, but the plan is to have some great Central European locations on the screen.”

It is unclear which parts of the saga Season 2 will cover exactly, but perhaps Mahesh Jadu (Vilgefortz) could give us a hint. For a while he has been hard at work, training his staff fighting skills. That could potentially imply a certain fan-favorite duel, possibly towards the end of the season.

With a production start in February 2020, we could expect the season to drop in Spring 2021. Stay tuned while we uncover more news on Season 2.
