By It’s been a while since we last reported on a project other than The Witcher but today we can share some news for the anticipated second season of HBO’s His Dark Materials.
Based on the popular fantasy trilogy by Philip Pullman, His Dark Materials is co-produced by BBC Studios, New Line Cinema, and Bad Wolf. The first season currently runs on BBC One and HBO and has been praised for its visual splendor and stellar cast, including Dafne Keen (Lyra Bellacqua), Ruth Wilson (Marisa Coulter) and James McAvoy (Lord Asriel). Filming of season two has already begun to get ahead of Keen’s ageing.
Joining the main trio for the second season are three new actors:
First is Remmie Milner who plays the witch Lena Feldt according to her cv. Her character first appears in the second book The Subtle Knife in the entourage of Serafina Pekkala (Ruta Gedmintas) the Queen of the Lake Ennara Witches. She and her daemon, an arctic tern were later assigned to an important mission which we won’t spoil here.
Next, we have Robin Pearce who previously appeared in Netflix’s Black Mirror and The Crown as well as movie productions such as Rogue One – A Star Wars Story. He plays archaeologist Dr. Oliver Payne who made an important discovery about the mysterious substance called “dust”.
Pearce’s cv lists directors Jamie Childs who has spearheaded six episodes for season one and newcomer Leanne Welham. Welham’s film Pili has won the “Audience Award” at the Dinard British Film Festival and was nominated for “Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director, or Producer” at the BAFTA Film Awards. It is currently unknown how many episodes Welham will direct in season two.
The last addition is British actor Henry Miller in the role of Porter. While the books don’t mention a character by that name, it is more possible this refers to a title and he may play Shuter, the old porter of Jordan College.
The second season of His Dark Materials will cover the events of The Subtle Knife and is expected to air in 2020. Stay tuned for more coverage.
