EXCLUSIVE: The Witcher’s Jason Thorpe on working with Henry Cavill and director Alex Garcia Lopez

The cast of The Witcher is packed with talent, and Jason Thorpe, who will be playing Lord Ostrit, is no exception. You can read our full Q&A with him by clicking here, but we wanted to pick out a couple of highlights for fans of Henry Cavill (Geralt) and director Alex Garcia Lopez.

We’ll let Jason himself introduce the character for those who aren’t familiar with him from Andrzej Sapkowski’s books: “Lord Ostrit is a childhood friend of King Foltest and has assumed a position of advisor to the King. He is a diplomat first and foremost with a keen mind, he definitely believes the pen to be mightier than the sword.”

The filming process for Lord Ostrit wasn’t extremely long, but it wasn’t brief either. “My scenes were split over a few weeks, so I was travelling to and from London to Budapest”, explained Jason. So, he had plenty of time to get to know his co-stars.

Who has Jason worked with on the set of The Witcher? The most obvious is Henry Cavill’s Geralt. “I found Henry to be lovely. Hard working but ready for a laugh,” said Jason. “We share a similar sense of humour so there was much merriment on set between takes… and that’s a big help, especially during the more emotional scenes.”

Unfortunately, he didn’t get a chance to meet Henry’s beloved dog, Kal. “Another time”, Jason hoped.

Lord Ostrit appears in the short story The Witcher. The story is adapted in the Netflix series for Episode 3 and was directed by Daredevil’s Alex Garcia Lopez. Alex has been much praised of late, and Jason helped to explain why: “Alex Garcia Lopez is a legend! I like his working style. He’s very open for action to change organically, he has a mercurial style which appeals to me. I also found him to be a gentleman who never had to raise his voice to get his point across. I’m a big fan.”
