HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter series starring Dominic McLaughlin, John Lithgow, Nick Frost and more has been filming its first season since last summer. A lot of the cast is already known, but there’s still roles to be discovered. We have a few today.
Naomi Wirther cast as Madam Malkin; and a new Ron Weasley

We’ve learned that Naomi Wirthner (Slow Horses, How to Train Your Dragon) has been cast in HBO’s Harry Potter as Madam Malkin. She is witch and a tailor shop owner in Diagon Alley. We should see Madam Malkin somewhat early in the season as Hagrid takes Harry to her shop to get wizard school robes.
Little fun fact, Wirthner’s son, Frank Dillane, played young Tom Riddle in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.
Another minor role is Ron Weasley. More specifically a vision of what young Ron would like to happen. When he looks in the Mirror of Erised, which shows you your deepest desires, Ron sees himself as a Head Boy. That Head Boy Ron is played by actor Louis Shelton, whose credits include various stage roles.

Another minor role is of an unnamed hotel manager, played by Neil Edmond (The Agency). The role itself isn’t very interesting, but since that’s a hotel manager, we can assume this is the Railview Hotel, where the Dursleys briefly stay. It was cut from the film adaptation of Philosopher’s Stone, but looks like it will be included in the show.
In other news, Harry Potter was reportedly doing some backdrop shots from inside a moving train in Scotland, around the Kyle of Lochlash line. Naturally, one thinks that they were filming shots of what Harry, Ron and Hermione would be seeing from their cabin on the train to Hogwarts.
Harry Potter series will film until May 2026 and is eyeing a 2027 release. Season 2 will begin filming back-to-back after Season 1 after a short break. Stay tuned to Redanian Intelligence for more news.
