The fourth season of Netflix’s The Witcher has come and gone with the fifth and final one already in the bag, deep in post-production. The final installment of the Liam Hemsworth, Freya Allan and Anya Chalotra series is expected to come sometime next year. Meanwhile, we keep getting various interviews and tidbits from cast and crew. This time was a slight surprise from Freya Allan herself.
Freya Allan considered leaving The Witcher after Henry Cavill

In a new interview with NME, Freya Allan revealed that she “spent a solid amount of time” considering whether she’d exit The Witcher after Season 3 following Henry Cavill’s exit, but naturally she chose to stay. “Once I’d made that choice, I made the most of every moment.“
Allan seemingly explains why she had doubts about continuing: “Season three was a really difficult season for everyone. I cried because I wanted to finish the show with the guy that played my adoptive father. For the first time, I was seeing what life away from The Witcher could look like and then the lead moves on…”
Freya and the rest of the cast made Liam Hemsworth as comfortable and welcome as possible coming to fill in Cavill’s shoes: “Fans just love to hate on something. We’ve made it clear that we’re welcoming him with open arms.” Still, Allan tells NME “it was very weird“. She still pictured Cavill’s face every time Ciri was thinking about Geralt in the script of Season 4: “He’s the Geralt I grew up with.”
During the same interview Allan reveals how following Cavill’s exit, she took the mantle of that person who would always push for some scenes to be included, that were not written in the scripts: “I really want to give fans what they want. I’d also seen Henry, who was so knowledgeable and loyal to the books, push for certain lines to be included. When he left, I was inspired to take on that role.”
Perhaps for that reason, Freya was surprised to see that some of the critique of the new season came for scenes that were actually faithful to the source material: “The thing that’s surprised me most about season four is how many people have criticised things that are straight from the books.” She wanted to make a burner account on Reddit to argue with people, but ultimately she didn’t.
Finally, Freya adds about the fifth and final season that we’ll see next year: “That final season took everything out of me, but I feel so incredibly satisfied.”

The Witcher Season 4 is has been out since October 30, 2025. Andrzej Sapkowski’s new Witcher book Crossroads of Ravens is available internationally since September 30, 2025. CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher 4 is now in full production.
