Full Cast of HBO’s Game of Thrones Spinoff, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is HBO’s third show in the Game of Thrones fantasy world. Following the success of the epic original saga and the spinoff House of the Dragon, HBO will be treading new ground by focusing on smaller stakes and a more humorous and easy-going tale.

An adaptation of George RR Martin’s series of novellas with the same name, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, will kick off with an adaptation of the novella called The Hedge Knight. This story will tell the tale of a tourney held at Ashford Meadow, and it will introduce us to the series’ rich ensemble of complex and humorous characters. This article will list all known cast members and their roles.

The list will be updated as we know more cast members.

The Iconic Duo of Protagonists

Peter Claffey as Dunk

image

Peter Claffey is an up-and-coming young actor who recently had a large role in the show Wreck, where he portrayed Cormac Kelly. Before that, Claffey had brief roles in Bad Sisters and Harry Wild.

Claffey will portray Ser Duncan the Tall, more commonly called Dunk. Dunk was born in the King’s Landing slums of Flea Bottom. Later, he became the squire of the hedge knight Ser Arlan Pennytree, until he inherited the title himself. As his nickname suggests, Dunk is very tall at almost seven feet. This detail was not overlooked by the casting team, as Claffey clocks in at 195 centimeters or 6’4″.

Dexter Sol Ansell as Egg

image

Dexter Sol Ansell has an impressive resume for his young age. Ansell has starred in the series The Midwitch Cuckoos as well as Hullraisers and has recently appeared in the prequel film The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes.

Ansell will portray Aegon “the Unlikely” Targaryen. As the fourth son of a fourth son, he was so far removed in the line of succession that he never hoped to sit on the Iron Throne. Instead, at the young age of 9, Egg wanted to travel the Seven Kingdoms as the humble squire to a hedge knight. To avoid being treated like royalty, Aegon would shave his head bald to remove the silver Targaryen hair and refer to himself as Egg.

Members of the Royal Family

Sam Spruell as Maekar Targaryen

image

Sam Spruell (Fargo, Doctor Who) will portray Prince Maekar Targaryen, the fourth son of the ruling King Daeron II Targaryen and father of our protagonist Aegon V “Egg” Targaryen. Maekar is described as stern and uncharismatic, the opposite of his brother Baelor.

Finn Bennett as Aerion ‘The Monstrous’ Targaryen

image

Finn Bennett (True Detective, Domina) will portray Prince Aerion Targaryen, also known as “Aerion the Monstrous”, although he prefers the moniker Aerion Brightflame. Aerion is the second son of King Maekar I Targaryen and the older brother of our protagonist Aegon V “Egg” Targaryen. If his “monstrous” nickname didn’t give it away, we can confirm that Aerion will be an antagonist to our heroes in the show.

Bertie Carvel as Baelor ‘Breakspear’ Targaryen

image

Bertie Carvel (The Crown, Dalgliesh) will portray Prince Baelor Targaryen, also known as “Baelor Breakspear”. Baelor is the firstborn son and heir of King Daeron II Targaryen. On top of that, he also serves as the Hand of the King. Considered uniquely kind and generous among nobles and Targaryen specifically, Baelor will befriend our heroes.

Henry Ashton as Daeron ‘The Drunken’ Targaryen

image

Henry Ashton (Outlander, My Lady Jane) as Prince Daeron “The Drunken” Targaryen, the eldest son of Prince Maeker Targaryen and Egg’s older brother. Egg will start his journey as Daeron’s squire. As his moniker suggests, Daeron is a drunk and a fool, but he also has prophetic dreams – so you would be wise to listen closely to his nonsensical rants.

Oscar Morgan as Valarr Targaryen

image

Oscar Morgan (The Crown, Millie Inbetween, Gotham Knights) has been cast as Prince Valarr Targaryen, the eldest son of Baelor Breakspear and a contestant in the tourney at Ashford Meadow. As a young Targaryen prince, Valarr is not allowed to spar with any fearsome opponents, but still manages to get himself in trouble.

Knights of the Seven Kingdoms

Daniel Ings as Lyonel ‘The Laughing Storm’ Baratheon

image

Daniel Ings (The Gentlemen, The Winter King) will portray the knight Ser Lyonel Baratheon, also known as “The Laughing Storm”. Besides being a knight, Lionel is also the heir of House Baratheon, set to inherit the Lord’s throne in Storm’s End. Lyonel will participate in the Ashford Meadow tourney, where he will meet our heroes.

Steve Wall as Leo ‘Longthorn’ Tyrell

image

Steve Wall (Vikings, Dune: Part Two, The Witcher) has been cast as Leo Tyrell aka Leo Longthorn, one of the most well regarded Tyrells in the history of Westeros. He participated in the First Blackfyre Rebellion and was among the important participants of the Ashford Meadow tourney in The Hedge Knight.

Danny Webb as Arlan of Pennytree

image

Danny Webb (Valkyrie, Alien 3, Pennyworth) has been cast as Ser Arlan of Pennytree. Ser Arlan is Dunk’s mentor and father figure. Dunk will start the season as Ser Arlan’s squire, before being knighted himself.

Ross Anderson as Ser Humfrey Hardyng

image

Ross Anderson has been cast as Ser Humfrey Hardyng. Humfrey was one of the many knights participating in the tourney at Ashford Meadow. He is set to clash with Prince Aerion ‘The Monstrous’ Targaryen and will eventually befriend Dunk and Egg.

Danny Collins as Ser Humfrey Beesbury

image

Danny Collins (Cats) is an actor, singer, and dancer who has been cast in the role of Ser Humfrey Beesbury. Before befriending Dunk and Egg, Beesbury will get a chance to spar with Ser Humfrey Hardyng in a battle of the ages, which smallfolk will name “The Battle of Humfrey”.

Edward Ashley as Steffon Fossoway

image

Edward Ashley (Masters of the Air, The Terror, The King) will portray Ser Steffon Fossoway. Steffon is one of the knights partaking in the tourney at Ashford Meadow and will befriend Dunk (as long as it serves his interests). His cousin Raymun serves as his squire.

Shaun Thomas as Raymun Fossoway

image

Shaun Thomas (Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, The Selfish Giant) will portray Raymun Fossoway. Raymun serves as a squire to his cousin, Ser Steffon Fossoway, a knight who enrolls in the tourney at Ashford Meadow. As such, he will meet and befriend Dunk and Egg.

Daniel Monks as Ser Manfred Dondarrion

image

Daniel Monks (Kaos, Dead Hot) will portray Ser Manfred Dondarrion, one of the knights attending the tourney at Ashford Meadow, who will run into Dunk and Egg.

Wade Briggs as Ser Roland Crakehall

image

Wade Briggs (Please Like Me, The Rainmaker) has been cast as Ser Roland Crakehall. A character with the same name appears in A Song of Ice and Fire, the books that serve as source material to Game of Thrones, and this is likely one of his ancestors.

Other Characters

Tanzyn Crawford as Tanselle

image

Tanzyn Crawford (Servant, Tiny Beautiful Things) portrays Tanselle, a Dornish puppeteer who was so abnormally tall she gained the nickname “Tanselle Too Tall”. Tanselle will be harassed by a particularly vile individual until Ser Duncan the Tall interferes.

Youssef Kerkour as Steely Pate

image

Youssef Kerkour (Home, Significant Other, House of Gucci) has been cast as Steely Pate, a blacksmith attending the tourney at Ashford Meadow. Dunk will pay a visit to Steely Pate when in need of a new suit of armor, and the two will become friends. Though Steely Pate is described as short, no less than five feet tall, Kerkour is actually quite tall at 6″4 and matches Dunk actor Peter Claffey. It’s possible the show will use movie magic to reduce Kerkour’s height, or that they decided to let go of this detail.

Chloe Lea as Rafe

image

Chloe Lea (Dune: ProphecyGreat ExpectationsFoundation) has been cast as Rafe, Dunk’s childhood friend in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. This seemingly confirms the show will follow a young Dunk during his time in King’s Landing’s Flea Bottom before he became squire to Ser Arlan of Pennytree, either in the first episode or as a flashback, dream, or vision.

Tom Vaughan-Lawlor as Plummer

image

Tom Vaughan-Lawlor (Avengers: Infinity War, The Infiltrator, Peaky Blinders) has been cast as Plummer, the Steward of Ashford and Master of the Games during the tourney at Ashford Meadow. As such, Plummer is in charge of signing up every entrant to the tourney, including Ser Duncan the Tall. But Plummer is in no rush to do that.

Connan Aaron as Gowen Baratheon

image

Connan Aaron (Pride and Prejudice, Destiny Had Other Plans) has been cast as Lord Gowen Baratheon. Though he is mentioned in the lore, little is known about Gowen. In the show, he may be part of Ser Lyonel Baratheon’s (Daniel Ings) entourage.

Russell Simpson as Lord Medgar Tully

image

Russell Simpson (Scorpion, Hope Street) has been cast as Lord Medgar Tully, the Lord of Riverrun, who will participate in the tourney at Ashford Meadow.

Ellie McHale-Roe as Lia the Lovely

image

Ellie McHale-Roe (Storyland) will play Lia the Lovely, a sex worker located in Ashford Meadow who will come across the show’s main characters during the tourney. Apparently, she will compare sex work to jousting as, in both cases, people “put their bodies in hazard for the pleasure of strangers.”

Carla Harrison-Hodge as Beony

image

Carla Harrison-Hodge (Joy, The Shape of Things) will play Beony, a sex worker located in Ashford Meadow who will come across the show’s main characters during the tourney. Apparently, she will compare sex work to jousting as, in both cases, people “put their bodies in hazard for the pleasure of strangers.”

Paul Murphy as Baratheon Maester

image

Paul Murphy (Ransom ’79, Kneecap) has been cast as a Bartheon Maester.

Gary Trainor as Crossbow Father

image

Gary Trainor (Hope Street, Showtrial) has been cast as… Crossbow Father. We’re not sure exactly what this role could be, but it seems to be tied to the next cast member in our list.

Kasper Andreasen as Crossbow Son

image

Kasper Andreasen (Faith of Our Fathers, Sherlock and Daughter) has been cast as… Crossbow Son, most likely the son of the immaculately named Crossbow Father.

Mark O’Connor as a Musician

image

Mark O’Connor will play a Musician in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Curiously, he was previously cast in the canceled Game of Thrones prequel The Long Night as The Marsh King.

Wayne Byrne (Braveheart, Aristocrats) has been cast as a Northman Armorer.

Steven Calvert as Stormland Knight

image

JB Moore as Farrier

J.B. Moore (Cocaine Bear, Sex Education) has been cast as Farrier, likely a blacksmith tasked with shoeing horses.

Douggie McMeekin as “Set Hored”

image

Douggie McMeekin (Chernobyl, Harlots) has been cast in a role referred to as “Set Hored“. This could be a codename, or perhaps an original character with a strange name, as no such character exists in the novellas.

Rowan Robinson as “Rowan”

image

Rowan Robinson plays an unknown character codenamed “Rowan”. Some fans speculated Robinson could be playing none other than Rohanne Webber, although she is not expected to be introduced before Season 2.
