Netflix’s The Witcher Nears a Whopping $720 Million Budget

The budgets of TV shows isn’t something usually advertised publicly, but through various sources that info still comes out. For instance, two years ago there was a report on The Witcher budget as of 2022, up to and including Blood Origin. Now we have the updated info including The Witcher Season 4 and Rats and it’s sure a lot of money.

Netflix tossed over 700 million to The Witcher so far

UPDATE: We now know the budget for The Witcher Season 4. It is $221 million, so around $27 million per episode, making it the most expensive so far.

We’ve learned that Netflix spent $175 million on The Witcher Season 3. That means around $21.8 million per episode. This is a very small decrease from Season 2, where the budget was $176.3 million with 22M per episode, but almost identical.

We also learned that so far Netflix have spent $20 million on the troubled spinoff The Rats: A Witcher’s Tale. That doesn’t yet include post-production so we don’t know what the final number will eventually be. We also don’t know if or when the project will come out, but that’s another topic.

Overall this makes the budget of The Witcher franchise on Netflix over $720 million and that’s not even counting the two animes Nightmare of the Wolf and Sirens of the Deep as we don’t know their numbers, and of course the final season. It now looks like this in total:

  • The Witcher Season 1: $92.1 million, $11.5 million per episode
  • The Witcher Season 2: $176.3 million, $22 million per episode
  • The Witcher: Blood Origin: $51.5 million, $12.8 million per episode
  • The Witcher Season 3: $175 million, $21.8 million per episode
  • The Rats: A Witcher Tale: $21 million and counting
  • The Witcher Season 4: $221 million, $27 million per episode

With the two animes and the final season, the total budget of the entire run of The Witcher on Netflix could be estimated well over $900 million, but we’ll know the exact numbers when we get there.

The Witcher Season 4 is has been out since October 30, 2025. Andrzej Sapkowski’s new Witcher book Crossroads of Ravens is available internationally since September 30, 2025. CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher 4 is now in full production.
