Filming for the third season of HBO’s House of the Dragon starring Matt Smith, Emma D’Arcy and Olivia Cooke is in full swing and already in its second half of production schedule. Meanwhile we keep learning new things about the filming and piecing the upcoming season’s structure bit by bit. This next one helps a lot.

What’s in store for Corlys Velaryon in the finale of House of the Dragon Season 3

We’ve learned that House of the Dragon recently filmed a scene where Corlys Velaryon aka The Sea Snake, finds himself captured and in the custody of the Greens, particularly Gwayne Hightower. The scene is directed by Andrij Parekh, who is behind the finale of the upcoming season and directs no other episodes this time.
Context for the scene is scarce, but if we had to guess, this has to be an indicator that in the finale of House of the Dragon Season 3, King Aegon II takes King’s Landing back after the city has been under Queen Rhaenyra for the majority of the season, starting from perhaps episodes 2 or 3.
A lot happens in the meantime in the source material, and without going into it too deep, Lord Corlys finds himself on Rhaenyra’s bad side and she has him imprisoned. The queen is later forced to flee the city and Corlys remains in his cell. Afterwards the Greens take King’s Landing back and it appears that they find Corlys there as well.
That is, of course, our interpretation of why and where Corlys could be captured. The actual show can do anything it likes with the source material and perhaps the scene is in a completely different context.
On top of that, it looks like Freddie Fox’s role as Gwayne Hightower is slightly expanded as he’s still around by the finale of Season 3.

House of the Dragon Season 3 is in production for a 2026 release on HBO. Watch this space for more news!
