Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2 Filming Date Unveiled

As post-production work continues on the first season of HBO’s next Game of Thrones prequel A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, the second and third seasons are already seemingly secured as we reported earlier. Writing had begun earlier this year and now we have an update on when they might start filming.

Since our last report earlier, we’ve also learned that the current schedule for the next seasons of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is to start rolling the cameras sometime in Q1 2026. Moreover, they’ll be filmed back-to-back.

As always, these schedules aren’t set in stone this far out and things might always get delayed, but it is at least an indicator of what HBO are planning for the moment.

The plan to film both seasons and back-to-back and not wait two years until the release of each season also makes sense. Dexter Sol Ansell, who plays Egg, will be 11 by the time they start Season 2 and he’s entering that age when chilren can unexpectedly grow quite a bit. Just look at the kids in Stranger Things, where events across all seasons are supposed to span only 4 years.

Earlier this year, HBO executive Francesca Orsi spoke about making Season 2 and 3: “We’re already planning on how do we build this for the three seasons in total. We’re not picking it up officially, but it’s looking very good. We’re looking at it as a holistic piece, Seasons 2 and 3, because there’s three novellas.

With this schedule, we could be looking at a 2027 and 2028 release for these two seasons of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. The first season is already sharing the 2026 release year with House of the Dragon Season 3 and the third and final season of Dunk could share 2028 with the final season of House of the Dragon. But we’ll know the dates when we get there.
