By It’s been nearly three years since the announcement was made that Henry Cavill was stepping away from the role of Geralt in Netflix’s The Witcher and in his stead Liam Hemsworth would carry the swords in the final two seasons. Since then we managed to discover how exactly the show would explain that change on screen and it involves a storyline from the books.
To recap, The Witcher Season 4 will introduce Nimue, a young girl who is alive some 100 years after Geralt, Ciri and Yennefer have passed and have become a legend. Nimue, played by Eve Ridley, is very interesed in these stories and seeks every opportunity to learn more. Luckily, there is Stribog (Clive Russell), a wandering storyteller who comes to Nimue’s village once in a while and tells various tales to local kids in exchange for food.
Season 4 of The Witcher will open with Stribog telling one of these stories to Nimue and other kids. The kids keep interrupting him with other versions of the story they heard. Meanwhile, we get a montage. Geralt fighting Vilgefortz with each cut having some slight differences. Once he’s in his black shirt as seen in Season 3, other time he’s fighting the same fight in his Season 2 armor and so on. We saw The Witcher re-enacting that Season 3 fight for Season 4 with Liam Hemsworth.
The point of all that is that Stribog is meant to tell the kids (and the viewers, it appears), that this is how it really went down and this is how Geralt really looked like.
But with that opening scene, it appears that the second part of this storyline from the books will actually be adapted in Season 5 as we have more news.
Liv Andrusier cast as Condwiramurs Tilly in The Witcher Season 5
Some time ago we reported that Liv Andrusier (Les Miserables) had joined The Witcher Season 5 in a recurring role. Now we can confirm that she’ll be playing Condwiramurs Tilly.
Condwiramurs Tilly is an oneiromancer, a mage who specializes in the interpretation and research of dreams. In Andrzej Sapkowki’s Lady of the Lake, Condwiramurs is invited by now adult Nimue to help her with discovering more details about Ciri’s legend as Condwiramurs was also interested in Ciri.
Together they do research during Lady of the Lake and some of what we read is actually what Condwiramurs dreams. Meanwhile, there is also a boatman known to us as the Fisher King, who becomes Nimue’s lover.
We’ll be looking to find out who plays the adult Nimue and the Fisher King. Hopefully, we’ll learn that information soon enough. Another question is how Arthurian is Netflix willing to get with The Witcher since they are coming rather close to that now. Will they be brave enough to go all in with Galahad? Time will tell.
In the end, it appears that at first in Season 4 this storyline will be used to explain why only one single character looks different (while everyone else looks the same), but in Season 5 it will become a full arc with its own purpose.
