By UPDATE: It turns out that there is no evidence of Andrzej Sapkowski making the comment below at the mentioned event. The original reddit post was stolen from Wiedzminlandia Facebook page, who is the actual person that has attended the event. The event recap was word for word from Wiedzminlandia, but the reddit user added a Sapkowski’s quote about The Witcher 4 that wasn’t in the original. The only place where Sapkowski could have said that would be during book signing that wasn’t being recorded. The reddit user made a clarification that Sapkowski said that during “a picnic where you could “meet him with a cup in his hand and talk”. Thus, there is no real evidence of Sapkowski making any comments on The Witcher 4.
ORIGINAL ARTICLE: One topic of discussion among Witcher fans upon the reveal of The Witcher 4 was that Ciri has gone through the witcher mutations and has become a witcher proper, not just name. There were many opinions, for and against. Now Andrzej Sapkowski himself has weighed in.
The Witcher author isn’t against Ciri becoming a witcher
During his appearance at the Opole Book Festival in Poland, Andrzej Sapkowski was asked about his involvement in the upcoming game and Ciri undergoing the witcher mutations. Here’s what he answered, translated from Wiedzminlandia by NoWishbone8247 on Reddit:
“CDPR sometimes write or call with a question, I don’t know why. They are fans, they know the books better than me. Mutations? I never wrote that adult women can’t go through them, maybe someone did but it wasn’t me. I don’t know, I haven’t thought about it.“
Indeed, in the books, the witchers of Kaer Morhen didn’t put Ciri through the Trials of the Grasses due to boys’ survival rate being low and assumed Ciri’s chances would be even lower. Ciri was only 12 at the time. As Sapkowski said now, he never mentioned anything about adult women, and in The Witcher 4 Ciri should be in her mid or late 20s as the game takes place several years after The Witcher 3.
Earlier, CDPR came out with a new tech-demo set in the Witcher 4 map, showcasing many things we might see in the final product. Those included Ciri’s horse Kelpie and Lan Exeter, the capital of Kovir, the kingdom where the game will take place.
