The Witcher 4 Release Date Confirmed ‘After 2026’

CD Projekt RED’s The Witcher 4 has been in development for several years now and entered full production in the second half of 2024. The new game that will see Ciri as the protagonist had some optimists that it could release in 2025, which wasn’t realistic, and CDPR confirmed that now.

The Witcher 4 could release in 2027 at the earliest

During an earnings call with investors, talking about financial goals, incentives and opportunities, CDPR officials mentioned that The Witcher won’t be released in 2026: “Even though we do not plan to release The Witcher 4 by the end of 2026, we are still driven by this financial goal.

CD Projekt chief financial officer Piotr Nielubowicz continued: “We are not going to announce the precise launch date for the game yet. All we could share now to give more visibility to investors is that the game will not be launched within the time frame of the first target for the incentive program, which ends December 31, 2026.

And thus the early release speculations are put to rest. Full production for the game started only late last year. For comparison, CDPR started full production on Cyberpunk 2077 in 2016 after The Witcher 3 was completely done with its expansions. The game itself launched in 2020 to a huge controversy and required 3 more years until it was completely fixed with the 2.0 update in 2023.

In other words, given the scope and the scale of The Witcher 4, plus the modern development times of AAA titles, even 2027 might be optimistic. Perhaps 2028 is more realistic? But there’s a couple of years between now and then and we’ll speculate on the precise release year closer to those dates.

The Witcher Season 4 is has been out since October 30, 2025. Andrzej Sapkowski’s new Witcher book Crossroads of Ravens is available internationally since September 30, 2025. CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher 4 is now in full production.
