Netflix’s The Witcher has always tried to distance itself from CD Projekt RED’s games in the attempt to carve its own identity in the eyes of the viewers. There have been some easter eggs and and minor crossovers, but we we haven’t seen a game-only character show up in the Netflix. Until now, that is.
Netflix Witcher adds a character from The Witcher 1

We’ve known that actor Jack Myers (Say Nothing, Masters of the Air) would be in The Witcher Season 4 for some time, but now we’ve learned that he’ll portray Roderick de Wett, who can be seen and interacted with in CD Projekt Red’s first Witcher game. We previously knew Myers’ character by his codename ‘River’, which continues the Witcher casting tradition of having the codenames and real names share the first letter.
In The Witcher 1, Roderick de Wett is a Nilfgaardian Count and knight of the Order of the Flaming Rose and he’s involved in a quest that features Princess Adda in Vizima.
Roderick is a game-only character, but a relative of his, Joachim de Wett is actually a book character that appears in the latter books of Andrzej Sapkowski’s The Witcher saga. We don’t know if Joachim has been cast or not, however.
As far as we know, Roderick de Wett is set to appear in an episode directed by Tricia Brock, who was responsible for Block 2 of the season or episodes 3 and 4.
Naturally, it is unlikely that this Roderick de Wett will have the exact same traits and place in the story of the game Roderick, but rather be a character who bears the same name. There probably isn’t an Order of the Flaming Rose in the Netflix series and this Roderick is unlikely to be doing exactly what he did in the game. Perhaps he’s just an additional person in Emperor Emhyr’s court?

The Witcher Season 5 is in post-production for a 2026 release. Andrzej Sapkowski’s new Witcher book Crossroads of Ravens is available internationally since September 30, 2025. CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher 4 is now in full production.
