Sad news today. Hector, the horse that played Geralt’s second Roach in Season 2 and Season 3 of The Witcher has sadly passed away at the age of 12.
Hector’s passing was announced by Laca Juhasz of the Team Juhasz company, who provided horses for the first seasons of The Witcher. Entirely in Season 1 and partially in Season 2 and 3.

Hector was only 12, which is rather young for a friesian horse as their lifespan can be around 25-30 years and sometimes more.
As far as the story goes, back in 2018, Henry Cavill and Hector took a liking to each other, but at the age of 5, Hector was on the younger side to have such long hours of filming, so Geralt in Season 1 rode on Zeus instead, the brown Roach, who Cavill also bonded with.
In the meantime, Hector filmed another fantasy series called Shadow & Bone was played Ben Barnes’ horse in the first season, which was filmed in Hungary like The Witcher‘s first season.

Later on in Season 2 of The Witcher, the brown Roach was killed by a monster called Chernobog and by the end of the season Geralt was gifted a black horse, which was played by Hector. He was also Roach for the entirety of Season 3 and after filming wrapped, Hector was transported back to Hungary.
As Geralt said to Roach in Season 2: “Enjoy your last walk across the meadow and through the mist. Be not afraid of her, for she is your friend.“
