By It has been almost two years since it was announced that Liam Hemsworth would be replacing Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher. Liam hasn’t spoken of the series publicly since then, but today he did on Kelly and Mark show while promoting his new film Lonely Planet with Laura Dern. On top of that, he also revealed when Season 4 wraps and when Season 5 starts.
How Liam Hemsworth got the part of The Witcher
First in the interview, Liam spoke how he got the role of Geralt of Rivia two years ago when Henry Cavill left the show:
“I hadn’t seen the TV show. And I hadn’t read the books. But I played the video game like ten years ago or something. And it’s still to this day one of the best video games of all time. And Netflix came to me almost two years ago now and said that they wanted me to just step in and take over.”
Liam continued: “I was really excited by taking on that character because I was a fan of the video game. But I said, you know, let me watch the TV show and have a look at the books and really get stuck into it.“
He also spoke a bit about the recent filming in Wales: “I’ve been shooting a show called The Witcher for the past nine months. We were [in Wales] for two weeks. And the first week was beautiful sunshine, blue skies. And then the second week was kind of like tornado season.“
With the Wales filming concluded, Liam and the gang has gone back to England to film the remaining scenes at Longcross Studios.
The Witcher Season 5 Filming schedule
During the same interview, Liam spoke of the filming schedule for the final two seasons of The Witcher. He spent the last 9 months in London preparing and filming Season 4 with three weeks remaining. Meaning, end of October 2024, as we’ve been reporting.
Furthermore, Hemsworth revealed that they will have a four-month break, then go back to filming Season 5 for another 8 months.
“I’ve got about three more weeks after this week of shooting. So we’ve been shooting now about eight months. Three more weeks and then we break for about four months and then come back next year and do another eight months.“
This means Season 5 will start production around March 2025 and go until October 2025. These dates are of course not yet totally set in stone and we’ll see if anything changes when the filming gets closer.
The Witcher Season 4 is has been out since October 30, 2025. Andrzej Sapkowski’s new Witcher book Crossroads of Ravens is available internationally since September 30, 2025. CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher 4 is now in full production.
