The cast and crew of Netflix’s The Witcher are hard at work on the fourth season in England filming both indoors at Longcross Studios and outdoors on locations. Today we have a casting update that may or may not hint at some future plot developments that were seen in Andrzej Sapkowski’s books.
Coen returns in The Witcher Season 4

We’ve learned that Zates Atour will return as the witcher Coen in The Witcher Season 4. He was introduced in Season 2 along with other witchers in Kaer Morhen, but wasn’t seen again in Season 3.
In the books, we see Coen again at the Battle of Brenna, which for most readers is a highlight of the latter novels. The battle includes zero main characters, but instead focuses on people like Jarre, Shani, Marti Sodergren and others. Yarpen Zigrin and his crew are there as well.
At this moment we have no confirmation whether The Witcher Season 4 is indeed adapting the Battle of Brenna or if we’ll see Coen in some other scenes. We’ll surely find that out in the future as well as other returning characters, if any.
We know Jeremy Crawford is meant to return as Yarpen Zigrin, but no current info on Joseph Payne’s Jarre. We do suspect that one of the new additions, Miles Jovian, could be playing Menno Coehoorn. As for Shani, it doesn’t seem that she exists in the Netflix version.

In other casting news, Jack Myers (Masters of the Air, Say Nothing) has joined The Witcher Season 4 in an unknown role. We only know that his codename is ‘River’ and that he’ll appear in episode 3 or 4 of the new season.
Meanwhile, The Witcher is filming Hansa scenes in Frensham Little Pond and Geralt’s new Roach was spotted to be there. Locals also say Liam Hemsworth was there a day earlier. Filming there is said to be ongoing, so we’ll keep you updated, hopefully with new photos.
The Witcher Season 4 is in production for a 2025 release. Andrzej Sapkowski’s new Witcher book has a planned Winter 2024/2025 release with The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep anime set for a late 2024 release as well.
