Freya Allan Teases Ciri’s Romance in The Witcher Season 4

The fourth season of Netflix’s The Witcher has already been filming for more than a month and we’ve already got a first look at Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia as well as other news. Here’s a full recap of the first month of filming. Meanwhile we have a new interview with Freya Allan who teases Ciri’s first romance in The Witcher.

In a new interview with ELLE, Freya Allan teased Ciri’s transformation in Season 4, as well as her new romance. She says it’s “the biggest shift we’ve seen. It’s so unbelievably different from anything that I’ve ever played with her.

Freya goes into the romance part: “She has her first experience with romance, if you can even call it that, because it’s not a good relationship. She goes into a very dark part of herself that I think is going to be terrifying to look at.

Freya is talking about The Rats, of course. More specifically Mistle, played by Christelle Elwin. In the books, when Ciri first meets the Rats, Kayleigh (Fabian McCallum) attempts to molest her. Mistle chases him away, only to finish what Kayleigh started. Subsequently, Ciri and Mistle develop a relationship until Leo Bonhart (Sharlto Copley) comes along.

It is not yet clear whether this exact scene between Mistle, Kayleigh and Ciri will be adapted in the show, but since Freya revealed that it’s “not a good relationship”, it’s evident that at least some of the DNA of the book dynamic between Ciri and Mistle will be seen in the show as well and that Netflix won’t be removing the toxic aspect of it, at least not completely.

How all of that will look on screen, we’ll have to wait and find out sometime in 2025, when Season 4 is released.

The Witcher Season 4 is in production for a 2025 release. Andrzej Sapkowski’s new Witcher book has a planned Winter 2024/2025 release with The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep anime set for a late 2024 release as well.
