By Liam Hemsworth has been cast in The Witcher in 2022, replacing Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia. It’s been quite a while since then and people are anxious to see how he looks as The Witcher. That day has finally come, and with a surprise!
UPDATE: Now it’s official!
After a few days of the leaked pictures floating around, Netflix has finally released the official first look of Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia:
It came with a statement from showrunner Lauren Hissrich: “His look has been in development for over a year, so it’s thrilling to finally share an official sneak peek of Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia.”
She continued: “Cast and crew alike have been struck by the passion, energy, and embodiment Liam has brought to the character from Day 1 — scruffy beard, iconic scar, and all! We’re having so much fun filming season 4 and are excited to welcome fans along on this journey with us.“
And there is a video on top of that!
Geralt vs Vilgefortz, revisited
The news comes from Metro and SplashNews photo agency as they obtained new photos of Liam Hemsworth in full costume as Geralt of Rivia.
What’s more, it looks like Netflix are recreating the iconic Geralt vs Vilgefortz fight in Season 4. Geralt fought Vilgefortz not very successfully in Episode 6 of Season 3 and got his behind handed to him by the mage.
Here’s another shot of the recreated scene, where we see Vilgefortz pushing the witcher away with his staff.
We can’t surely say what purpose recreating the Season 3 scene serves, but we hope to find out soon. If we had to guess, we don’t believe they are redoing the entire fight, but perhaps some brief moments from earlier seasons for whatever purpose.
That’s suggested by Liam wearing Geralt’s Season 2 armor as well:
We can also see Anya Chalotra’s Yennefer in one of the shots as well as an unnamed elf. We can’t say with certainty if Yennefer is related to the Geralt vs. Vilgefortz scene or if they are filming an unrelated Yennefer scene in the same location.
In any case, we finally have the first look at Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia. We know for a fact that the official promo photo does exist and we were expecing it last month, but Netflix is withholding it so far and we don’t know what are their plans.
The Witcher Season 4 is has been out since October 30, 2025. Andrzej Sapkowski’s new Witcher book Crossroads of Ravens is available internationally since September 30, 2025. CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher 4 is now in full production.
