The Witcher: Blood Origin’s Surprising Post-Credit Scene Explained

Post-credits scenes are usually a teaser device employed by filmmakers and studios to tease what’s next for the franchise. They aren’t completely uncommon for TV series in recent years, but feature films have been using them much more. In The Witcher, we only had one instance of this so far when after Season 2 we got the very first teaser for Blood Origin. Now, Blood Origin has a post-credit scene too.

SPOILER ALERT: Do not read further if you don’t want to be spoiled about the post-credit scene in The Witcher: Blood Origin.

What’s in the Blood Origin post-credit scene?

In the post-credit scene for The Witcher: Blood Origin we see reused footage of Freya Allan‘s Ciri from The Witcher Season 1, when she used to dress as a boy and play with peasant children in the streets of Cintra.

The twist is that Ciri is being watched or perhaps stalked by none other than Samuel Blenkin‘s Avallac’h, who traveled through time and space to get to that Cintran courtyard. He watches Ciri from that very same door that Geralt does.

He wears the same outfit as we saw him in his previous scene, so time didn’t pass in this case. In fact, it’s him who makes the discovery that the ancient monoliths allow not only travel between space, but also time. Hence, it’s quite possible that Samuel Blenkin may be Avallac’h in the main Witcher series as well as opposed to an older version, which many would have been expecting.

Lauren Hissrich explains the Blood Origin post-credit scene

The Witcher showrunner Lauren Hissrich talked about this scene in an interview with Digital Spy: “We talked about that end-piece a lot, because we learn, of course, that Avallac’h has been tracking Ciri through her whole life, through these worlds, through the spheres. We learn that later in The Witcher.

She continued: “We thought it would be a really nice nod to fans if we took this moment that everyone knows from season one, where she turns and looks in a doorway, and we put Avallac’h there instead. And I think it’s just this great sort of Easter egg. It’s like: if you know, you know. And you know that it will come back up later. And if you don’t, it’s just a great, little mystery.

The new Avallac’h shot added to the old Season 1 scene

Netflix revealed an official description for Avallac’h in their Tudum article: “The young mage Avallac’h reacted swiftly to save Merwyn from an assassination attempt, which lands him a position as her bodyguard. He also works to help her better understand the monoliths, making a surprising discovery about how they function.

Avallac’h is a skilled combat mage, though he lacks the raw power of Balor or the knowledge of Zacaré.

Showrunner Declan de Barra in one of the recent interviews mentioned the roles of Avallac’h and Eredin and how they are portrayed in Blood Origin: “Especially with Avallach and Eredin, painting them from their baby stages, when they’re still quite innocent, and they haven’t been corrupted yet, and they become these multi-layered dark creatures in the games and the books and the [main Witcher show].
