The Sandman Season 2 May Be Shorter Than Season 1

Netflix’s The Sandman series premiered last year to much acclaim and after a couple of months of fan anxiety, the streamer finally renewed it for Season 2. Now, filming has finally started and we also started getting some info.

The Sandman Season 2 to possibly have fewer episodes

The first season of The Sandman produced 12 episodes total. 10 were released initially as part of the main release, and the final two were combined together into one and released two weeks afterwards.

We’re hearing that Season 2 might be different, because it’s likely to have only 8 episodes total. But this isn’t confirmed yet. That’s obviously fewer that Season 1, but more in line with the classic Netflix number.

What’s also curious is the original reported filming schedule. According to it, The Sandman Season 2 would be filmed in two blocks: first block would be shot from June to October 2023. The second block was planned to be shot from January to April 2024.

This led to the suggestion that Netflix may also release these episodes in two parts. After all, the two blocks are shot separately and Netflix has been leaning into split releases more and more lately with Stranger Things, The Witcher, Ozark, Money Heist and more.

Here are some filming photos from The Sandman Season 2 featuring Tom Sturridge (Dream), Kirby Howell-Baptiste (Death) and new cast member Indya Moore.

They are seen with director Jamie Childs, who did several of the first season’s episodes including “24/7” aka the one in the diner. Another set of photos sees Tom Sturridge’s Dream with a yet-unidentified new cast member.
