By Filming for the third season of Netflix’s The Witcher has been going on for over 6 weeks now. We just recently reported that director Gandja Monteiro started shooting her episodes (3 and 4). This time we will focus on then new faces in the cast. So far Netflix has announced 4 new cast members including Meng’er Zhang as Milva, while we have reported about 3 other cast members including Aplegatt. Today we have news about the 2 new sorceresses in the upcoming season.
According to our information, actress Rochelle Rose has joined the cast of The Witcher Season 3. In our opinion, Rochelle will play the character of Margarita Laux-Antille in the coming season. Margarita in the books is a powerful sorceress who replaced Tissaia de Vries as rector of Aretuza. She is also a close friend of Yennefer.
Rochelle Rose has played in such productions as Death in Paradise and Boxing Day. Aside from those, she has an extensive stage career with such plays as Cinderella, Aladdin, The Winter’s Tale, Jack & The Beanstalk and many more.
In February, we reported about casting for 10 new characters. One of them was a character codenamed ‘Maida Vale’, which we believe is Margarita Laux-Antille as character codenames usually share the same first letter with the real name, and only Margarita was fitting the description of such a character with an M.
This is the description of this character, created for casting purposes: “Plus-sized and powerful, she is a member of a particular group of women you don’t want to cross. Vivacious and self-confident, she’s sure to be a match for anyone she meets in The Witcher.“
However, this is not the end of new information. As we already informed, the cast of Season 3 also includes Safiyya Ingar. We have reasons to believe that Safiyya also got the role of Keira Metz. In the books, Keira is a sorceress who, despite her young age, gained importance and became a member of the council of King Foltest of Temeria.
Both actresses were already on the set of the third season. In early April in Slovenia, when they filmed at Predjama Castle, Safiyya and Rochelle took part in a scene with Anya Chalotra (Yennefer), Cassie Clare (Philippa), Anna Shaffer (Triss) and Therica Wilson-Read (Sabrina). This may suggest a scene related to the Lodge of Sorceresses, but at the moment it’s only a speculation.
Here’s a zoomed in look at Rochelle Rose as Margarita, who was walking just behind Therica Wilson-Read‘s Sabrina. Safiyya Ingar‘s Keira is likely the redhead just behind them as the other redhead had longer curly hair, which means that was Triss.
Season 3 of The Witcher is in production until September 2022 for a 2023 release. The live-action prequel The Witcher: Blood Origin is in post-production after two weeks of reshoots and is currently eyed for a Christmas 2022 release.
