The Witcher casts Fringilla’s uncle Artorius Vigo

The first season of Netflix’s The Witcher is only a little over a month away, but we are still finding new cast members who will act alongside Henry Cavill in the much-anticipated debut. Recently we found that English actor Terence Maynard will appear in the first season as the Toussaintois mage Artorius Vigo, Fringilla Vigo‘s uncle.

To refresh your memory, in the books Artorius was a court mage in the duchy of Toussaint assisting the ruling family. He also knew many secrets about the palace of Beauclair, including that it had a hidden area protected by powerful spells. He passed this bit of information on to his niece Fringilla who would later use it for her own purposes.

Terence Maynard as Helios in BBC’s Merlin

If you have played the Blood and Wine expansion for CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, you will surely remember the famous quest in Land of a Thousand Fables. That world was created by the same Artorius Vigo for the young Anna Henrietta and Sylvia Anna.

While it is unclear in what capacity we will see Artorius in the Netflix adaptation, he might have a part in the mages’ council alongside Tissaia de Vries (MyAnna Buring) and Stregobor (Lars Mikkelsen).

Is this Artorius?

Terence lists Alik Sakharov (Episodes 1, 2 7 and 8) as his director in his CV, but this can be a placeholder. He also spells his character’s name as Artorious, instead of Artorius. This may be a misspelling, so we’ll go with the canon name for now.

He previously appeared as Helios in BBC’s Merlin and as Tony Stewart in ITV’s Coronation Street. You can also catch him next year in Amazon’s adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower as Robert Allgood and in Netflix’s Cursed alongside 13 Reasons Why star Katherine Langford.
